First of all, we need to understand what is minimalism. Because I have seen people mix it with the idea of grudging and make fun of it. But there's a huge difference between these two. We don't have to sacrifice anything to become minimalist.
Minimalism is an art. It needs lots of practice to be able to behold this in ourselves. Minimalism means to me, 'to value thyself more than any other materialistic things'. It doesn't mean we have to get rid of every luxury from our life and started to live a totally different life. It's not also possible for everyone to get rid of what they use and own overnight. And it's not also necessary. Rather, it means making decisions based on what we actually need in our life instead of getting everything we want. It's more like focusing on our demand, not on the desire.
So, why we need to practice minimalism?
The first thing I understand minimalism do to us is, it helps us to get rid of the negative vibes of our society and social media. If we can concentrate on our self-need rather than what people want from us we will feel more superior mentally.
It helps to develop ourselves. People judge us by our looks, material things and so on. We can change the game if we can manage ourselves to not focus on those material gain. And it helps to ignore that negativity.
How we can be minimalist?
Minimalism is different for everyone. How a millionaire practice it may not gonna match with us. But there are some common rules we can follow.
Set your mind, don't move by other's choices. It's really hard to not get influenced by other's opinion but we need to be strict on our own choices to be minimalists.
Ask yourself what you actually need and plan your life that way. We don't have to get rid of what we need but we should focus on what we bring from the next.
Focus on life, not on pleasure. Life has a huge meaning. We need to explore it and our pleasure items can be a barrier to that.
These are actually my personal thoughts about minimalism. This is how I practice them. You can get many other different theories which can be quite different from what I'm talking about here. But I think we can start from the scratch by following those rules.
