I recently found out that we can go to nether in our Minetest world. Exploring it is going to be fun and challenging. When I logged in last night, a few minetesters were already planning to go to this new dimension. I joined them and we entered the portal.
We saw a few protection blocks placed there already, meaning someone had been there before and it was none other than Shrazi. Not sure when he went there but the area was well-lit with glowstones and other light blocks. What were we looking for in the nether? Well, anything we can get our hands on... lava, glowstones, netherrack etc. We wanted to get all the special blocks.
I wanted to find nether ore to complete my armour set. I have 6 different types of armour sets now, only the nether set is missing now.
I thought we will find some dungeon or other special areas within this world where we will find nether somewhere. We went looking for it. We searched the area but it was not a big open area and we didn't want to mine as mining is very resource exhausting and slow in the nether. We decided to go through my portal. It was a much bigger place with lakes of lava and much more places to explore.
So, we came out of there and decided to go through my portal. After taking some extra food and blocks we went back to the nether.
We came across a big lake of lava some parts of it were solid and we could walk on it but we will get hurt while walking. I found out that you could hold the jump button and won't take any damage while jumping. We also had enough water with us and we used it to counter the molten lava and pave a path for us.
Dying here is a likely possibility, you can fall down a hole into a lava pit easily or a monster will kill you with a couple of hits. We were three players and two of us died quickly. Getting back to your bones is not easy at all. It would require some preparation before you decide to go in again. I recommend having some water, extra blocks, a pickaxe and some food. A glider can help immensely.
I was left with just one player before I eventually died of fall damage. We wanted to make a travel box but I did not bring any glass or sand. And smelting nethersand didn't work. You cannot make glass in the nether. So, when I died I asked Boss for his coordinates so I can come back to the place and install a travel box there for him to get out of this hell easily.
On my way back, I found Val's bones. It seemed that he died from falling into lava.
I went back to the coordinates, it was a long journey... after I got to the place, I placed a new travel box and named the station "Waterfalls in Hell" as we filled the place with water...hehe.
I look around to find a dungeon or any other structure which might contain some nether for me, I need 24 nether ingots to make a full set of armour. I looked at the recipe again and found out that I can make a nether lump from netherrack. But the only problem is it takes a lot of netherrack to make a single lump.
You need to convert netherrack to nether bricks. 1 netherrack = 1 netherbricks.
Then you can make 1 compressed nether brick using 9 nether bricks. And 9 compressed bricks make only 1 nether lump.
So, the math is you need to mine 81 netherrack to make just one nether lump.
If you use a diamond pickaxe, it will break quickly even before you get enough netherrack for 1 lump. You can make a nether pickaxe but it will need 3 nether ingots to make one. You can mine 4-5 lump worth of netherack before breaking your axe which is not efficient enough. In short, this nether armour set will take much longer but at least now I know how to make one.
Nether pickaxe mines netherrack much faster are it is significantly more durable than any other pickaxe. Although I haven't tested it extensively with other blocks. I still need to make a nether sword and see if it deals more damage to monsters. This will take way more mining. It will take at least a couple of days to get my nether armour and start thinking about nether tools.
To be honest, I am a little disappointed with the minetest nether. It is very repetitive and gets boring quickly. With nothing much to find here other than loads of lava and a few special mobs. I wish it had more biomes like the nether from Minecraft. Some trees won't hurt as well and a few more nether mobs. I see a lot of potential maybe a new mod can help make this a thriving place. I will look online for mods that can make it a better place.
