It's always tough to build a new habit no matter how simple it is. Because our brain has to get rid of the old habits, make room for the new one and then get used to the new habit. But it takes time to do that. And most of the cases we fail to adopt a new habit and go back to our old life.
That's why using momentum is necessary to start a new habit. Fix a specific time to practice what you want to adopt, notice what lets you not attend the thing, what you usually choose to do instead. Next, remove that thing from your list and put your new habit at the moment.
Let me give you my life example!
I used to pick a snack just after coming from the office and sat in front of the TV or PC, without ever get fresh sometimes. After a few months, I noticed how unhealthy the behavior is and choose to stop that. But I failed to have different other snacks.
Then what I started to do instead of sitting in front of any monitor, I go directly to the washroom. I started to place what I might need in the morning, so I can just directly go to my washroom after coming back from work. And it worked!
This is an example of getting rid of bad habits using momentum. You can practice this to include good habits at the moment to break the chain of bad habits. It lets us pause and start what we wanted to.
You can get many scholarly articles and research on it also and you can learn more from there to incorporate this in your life. It's really very helpful as I found. Try it you will be the winner!
