Today in class felt like one of those days where everything looks normal on the outside, but inside the room — confusion dey.
Our painting lecturer didn’t come to class. Instead, he dropped the assignment a day before on our class platform.
He said we should come to class with a sketch ready — that he’d come around to mark it.
Simple enough.
But not everyone saw the message.
Some people entered class and got straight to work — they had seen the message early, came prepared, and were already sketching before others even sat down.
But for many others, that message was news today.
You could literally see the confusion spread.
People were tapping each other, whispering:
“Wait, we’re sketching today?”
“He sent a message?? When??”
“Chai, I didn’t see it oh…”
Then, everybody moved differently:
Some started rushing to sketch anything, even if it didn’t make sense 😅
Some started copying small small from their neighbors.
A few just dropped their heads and slept — they didn’t even try 😂
And others? They just played through it all, like nothing was happening.
Even though the lecturer didn’t show up, the classroom was full of energy — some calm, some tense, some funny.
And honestly, it reminded me that in this art journey, we’re all trying. Some are tired, some are stressed, some are just trying to get through the day. But we all showed up. And that counts too.
The sketches may not be perfect — or even done yet — but today had its own lesson:
Art is not just about what you put on paper, but everything going on around you while you’re creating.
Let’s see if the lecturer eventually comes to mark them. Either way… we move.
