Hello everyone!! 😀👋🏾
If you’ve ever watched Fast & Furious, you know one thing Dom Toretto doesn’t joke with, it's FAMILY.
That idea which is the central theme, echoed greatly through out the whole series, and that is what I set out to capture in this portrait of Vin Diesel. You know that calm and steady look that says everything will be okay? That’s exactly what I tried to nail and thank goodness, I did.
I started with a light sketch to map out the form (the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.).
I then proceeded to the shading and laid it down patiently with graphite pencil and softened using Marie’s soft charcoal. The layering process was slow, because I was building up the textures in the skin and shirt in order to bring out depth. I used a Tombow Monozero eraser for the highlights in the eyes and shirt collar and a blending brush to soften edges where needed.
I couldn’t document the full step-by-step process due to some technical challenges, but I’m glad I was still able to bring Dom’s energy to life. I hope you love it and that it makes you pause and reflect.
Because this portrait isn’t just about likeness, it’s about that unspoken strength behind a man who puts family above all else.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Do you have a favorite Fast & Furious moment? 😀 Drop it below. I’d love to hear it.
Thank you for stopping by. Much love from me to you.💕❤️
