Well Hivers this is a bit of a mish mash of a post but it comes about with my Sunday lunch sort of local pub starting of a Friday breakfast club. The Welcome Stranger is now serving breakfast on a Friday between 9 and 11am so I thought I’d cycle out and give it a go.

I started running the MapMyRide app out in the Philippines so much less competitive than Stava but just as handy for stats and maps.

It’s about 7 miles away so a good excuse to get the e-bike out and go for a cycle too. Leaving the house around 9:30 I arrived around 10 in time for a very well cooked, generously portioned and reasonably priced Full English.

After breakfast I was still feeling like a bit more of a cycling was needed so I thought I would give the e-bike a real test and run up to Haytor on Dartmoor which is mostly up hill from the pub and another 5 miles so off I went the route was not one I’d used before as it’s a narrow country road up through Liverton and Ilsington.

The 5 miles and all uphill climb took nearly an hour on a full breakfast too I was beginning to regret the decision ☹️. But the e-bike performed effortlessly and I arrived at Haytor car park in time for a sit down to get my breath back unfortunately no ice cream van today so I just sat on a rock for 5 minutes to get my breath back and enjoy the nice view.

One advantage of a lot of up hill is a lot of down hill on the way back good job too the uphill had hammered the battery a bit. But the 91/2miles back home took hardly any thing out it.

So I arrived home with 2 bars left on the battery much the same as when I left Haytor so quite pleased with that according to MapMyRide I about 500m of elevation gain which could explain why I was hitting over 30mph on the way back, no electrical assistance either.

One small mod I could do to the e-bike is remove the extra cogs on the crank and just keep the 33 tooth middle ring as that’s the only gear I used, if that goes I can strip out the changer and derailleur not that I need to loose the weight but it is less clutter.

So there you have it Hivers that’s how I spent my Friday morning I hope yous was just as enjoyable.
