I'm trying to make this weekly update of my cycling stats a ritual. It forces me to look at the progress of my goals on a weekly basis to see how I'm doing and increase the number of workouts If I fall even further behind on my schedule than I already am because of my long-term injury earlier this year. Will I catch up? Keep reading and you'll find out.
Week 27
The first part of the week we had a heatwave in the Netherlands. Despite that I've been commuting three days again, which resulted in 99 kilometer commuting rides this week.
On Wednesday the heatwave ended in a rainy ride home. The cold rain on the hot asphalt created a warm damp over the road.
I knew I wasn't able to ride on Saturday since I offered to help my parents in law that day, so I decided to make a longer ride on Friday evening. I made a nice 57.83 kilometer ride that took me two hours.
The totals of week 27 were 165.71 kilometer. Roughly 20 kilometers more than I had in week 26.
Yealy goals
Due to my long injury I am quite a bit behind on schedule. Last week I managed to reach the 40%.
With the 165 of last week (and the two days of commuting I have done this week) I have reached 44% of my goal of cycling 5000 kilometers this year. There are 176 days left to reach the goal.
It will be tough, but it's not impossible...
I was wondering if I'm really caching up. And since I like numbers and graphs, I decided to use Google Sheets and put all the numbers in a table to create a graph. Actually two graphs.
The first line shows the number of kilometers I have to ride weekly to reach the 5000 kilometer a by the end of the year. The second line are the actual weekly kilometers I have cycled so far.
You can clearly see which weeks I had my injury and you can also see a nice increase in the last few weeks.
When I divide the number of kilometers over 52 weeks, I have to ride 96,15 kilometers a week.
The average in the past weeks was 83,60.
I still have 2770 kilometers to go and 25 weeks left to accomplish my goal. This means I have to ride 110,8 kilometer every week.

Friday ride!
Friday evening was a perfect evening to go for a bicycle ride. With 22 degrees it was warm, but not too hot. There was quite a bit of wind from the south-west, so I decided to head in that direction first. I choose to cycle all the way along a canal on my way back, which was very nice with the tailwind. You can see the green parts where I was going faster.

Here are some interesting points in the video:
@0.17 I go over a very large cycling bridge that goes in a wavy form over a road and a railroad. It looks very arty and won a couple of architecture prizes as well.
You cannot see it very well in the video, but I spotted a gray heron catching a pray alongside the bike path. judging by the size I think it was a rat.
@1:05 you can see it flying away.
@1:30 You see the low hanging sun. I had quite a bad sight despite my sunglasses. But it's a dedicated cycling path, so there are no cars to crash into.
You do see I come across two runners in the end.
@1:40 I'm riding in a town along the canal. I had to go a bit slower there because it was quite busy with people.
@1:50 I almost crashed into a parked trailer because some stupid kid was filming himself while cycling. I really hate it when people use their phones in traffic. It can be so dangerous 😡
The fines are really high for holding a phone in traffic (both by cyclists as car drivers), but the chance of getting caught is low, so people keep doing it.
It really causes a lot of accidents.
Luckily the rest of the cyclists were paying attention and I could return home safely.
The rest of the route I witnessed the setting sun while riding alongside the canal.
At the end I could add a total number of 57 kilometer to my total.
And it was a really nice ride!
