Travelling is simply a movement from one place to another for a temporary or permanent stay and it could be for vacation, business/work, or a simple change in scenery. Despite the purpose of you travelling it's always nice to experience the feelings that come with it, seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing a new culture and new town activities, it's always a nice feeling to have.
However, in Nigeria travelling has been ruled out of those things mentioned because we now see it as a means of escape, escape from the economy, escape from insecurities, escape from bad government and escape from the bad educational system and once you travel out by escaping, it's like you've been freed from prison or bondage and you are experiencing new life and experiencing something you've been missing out on.
The average youth in Nigeria work and hustle hard not because they want to have a better place in the country but because they want to travel out and escape from the economy or country. The problem of the country is so deep that no one wants to stay behind and have a future in it, that's why you see students immediately after graduating from high school or college immediately apply for masters outside the country because parents know what they tend to gain out there than in here.
To prove a point about how travelling is an escape route from the bad economy and system, the President of Nigeria has failed to improve the health care system in the country but always spends millions of naira travelling outside the country for checkups and treatments like he doesn’t believe in the health care and failed to build a proper and better one throughout his tenure. But when others do the same by travelling out of the country for treatment they guilt trip the person of abandoning the system.

Another point of why people see travelling as an escape route is the educational system. For months now, they have been strikes in the educational system which has made university students stay at home doing nothing just waiting government to attend to the educational body in charge of the educational system and if this is not settled it can go up to 4 – 6 months with students staying at home not attending lectures. So this is why most people prefer travelling outside the country for studies either for their masters or those who have passed through undergraduates already which is very common and parents also prefer to send their students to private universities after high school or send them abroad.
So as other people see travelling as excitement for vacations, business and any other activities, Nigerians see it as an escape route to leave the bad economy. It’s important we travel to places not just because we see it as an escape route but to experience new things, vacations, peace of mind or a change of scenery.
According to
@joyceful in her post that I will be promoting PAHARUHAY CAMPSITE ESCAPADE – DAY 1 📍 Tabogon, Cebu
She said: Have you ever wondered about the feeling of waking up with a relaxing mountain view and calming peaceful sound of the animals? With all the hustle-bustle of the city, we would always love to take a break and enjoy a place where we can experience all of these, right?
A big thank you to her for letting me use her quote.
