Well, this season was a complete shitshow, for what may have likely been the most energy wasted on a full bar of 50 over a two-week ranked reward season. I chose to do this; it was always the plan. I spent a week away in Canada, out west in British Columbia along the Salmo River for Shambhala Music Festival. I was not playing any manual battles and I figured I could snag more $SPS in Survival Mode than Wild Ranked.
I could have managed things slightly better on my end without much extra work, so I have a few ideas about how to improve operations going forward, especially the management of my collection in Survival Mode. One thing I was happy to see was the minimal amount of Wild Ranked battles played this season. Just 55 battles, the minimum needed for the bot to realize the 2 tiers of league promotion rewards for Champ 1 and 2. Let's check out how this wacky festival season all played out while I was living my best life floating down this river.

Knowing I would not play any ranked for the 2nd half of the season and still on my summer break from school, I got to jam a bunch of Modern ranked over the first week of the season. I crushed 254 battles, taking advantage of all the extra energy from the first two batches of Ultimate and Major loot chests at strategic times during the day. I even took a run at my all-time high rating of 5000 in Modern, but the team definitely tuned up the L.bots for this next season of ranked play because they were much more difficult to beat. I fell a bit short at 4960 before I slumped back to 4800 as I tried in vain to jam a few battles with a survival-depleted collection on the second-to-last day of the season. I was just below 60% win rate on the season and slipped out of the leaderboard Top 50 over the last few days for a small drop in Glint rewards.
In Wild, it was the bare minimum. 55 battles. The Xbot had an insane win rate to start the season at 67% which is better than 2/3 of all the battles. YEET! More time for Modern if I've got the minutes to spare. I kept it switched to Survival for the 2nd half of the season while I was at the fest, so we got the two tranches of reward chests and used the energy elsewhere (or nowhere at all). One downside to the reduced battles and overall wins was that I was a distant 138th place on the leaderboard and missed out on any bonus Glint rewards.
A friend shared with me later that if I had staggered the Xbot to alternate playing Survival and Wild every day on a 24-hour cycle, I could give them each a full 48-50 hours between sessions. I would likely have avoided ratings drops in both formats, while having more wins in Wild and a much better win rate in Survival, albeit with a small reduction in wins. For now, that is all water under the bridge, because in a few days the Survival Mode cooldown will ONLY apply to Survival Mode, leaving people to play in Ranked play with all their cards. Hooray!
Survival Mode was an issue, with 310 battles played, but only 148 wins. That's an ugly 47.7% win rate and down to poor account management on my part. I should have slowed down the frequency of play and tightened the loss-streak kill switch for each session. 148 is still a strong number of wins, nearly as many as I earned in Modern on my own in the first week, but at a significant increase in SPS rewards, even if the team has halved them for the next 4 experimental seasons as they continue to tweak the specs of this new format.

All things considered, that I used no energy over the last seven days of the season, I'm still very pleased with a total of 15830 SPS from S163 Ranked play. The lion's share came from Survival Mode at 8680 SPS with Modern close behind at 6567 SPS and Wild very limited 581 SPS. I actually made more SPS from Brawls this season!
What is interesting is to compare the SPS/win and SPS/battle in each format, since the win rates were so starkly different in S163.
In Modern, I earned 43.5 SPS/win and 25.8 SPS/battle. In Survival, I earned 58.6 SPS/win but just 28 SPS/battle. Then there's Wild, with all the saturation just 15.7 SPS/win and 10.6 SPS/battle. It will be very interesting to see how play betters and battle liquidity flows once the Survival Mode cooldown is restricted to only affect that format.
⭐ SPS Report
Type | ⭐ Amount |
---|---|
Staking Rewards | 1390.696 |
Ranked Rewards as above | 15830.144 |
Brawl Rewards | 624.179 |
Land Rewards | 3333.331 |
NET SPS | 21178.350 |
The SPS report continues to trend up as each passing season has brought increases to SPS from Staking and Land. My staked SPS grows, and my share of mined SPS from land grows as people turn their attention elsewhere. I'm sure somewhere someone has sheets that show the best way to value the land power everywhere and maybe even SPS earning still isn't optimal?! But that guy ain't me!
Still at 21178 SPS in total rewards with about 75% coming from Ranked rewards, S163 can be considered a success. I don't have tournament reports ready yet, but those should be updated shortly. My guess is that I'll just be a bit short of 30K based on my reduced tournament traffic.
Well, I'm glad that for now, I won't have to worry about the Survival Cooldown affecting progress in Modern, Wild, and especially Tournaments! We'll see how that affects the overall return next season. Until next time...
