Since spring, I’ve been using Duolingo, a language-learning app. I tried out various languages, but the ones that stayed with me are German—the language of the country where I now live, and Italian, which I’ve wanted to learn ever since my twenties, when I dreamed of studying food and cooking in Italy.
Yesterday, while I was studying Italian, I discovered that the word "libero" means both “free” and “free time,” and I was deeply moved.
In Japanese, “free time" (Hima, 暇) can sometimes sound a bit boring like not having anything to do or even negative. But in this context, it feels brighter more like “having time you can use for yourself” or “having no obligations and room to breathe.”
Freedom is important to everyone, but to me, it’s especially precious: freedom of place, freedom of time, freedom of what to do... Perhaps my love for Bitcoin and some cryptos comes from its deep connection between time and freedom.
Libero, libero… having time and freedom to do what you want. What a beautiful word. I want to savor it and be grateful for the libero moments I have right now.

春からDuolingoという語学学習アプリを使っています。あれこれ言語を試して残ったのが、今暮らしているドイツのドイツ語と、いつかはご飯について学びにいきたいと20代の頃から思っているイタリアのイタリア語です。
昨日、イタリア語を学習していて、liberoという単語には「自由」と「暇」という意味があることを知って、なんとも感動しました。
日本語で「暇」というと、少し退屈そうというか、ネガティブな響きもありますが、ここでいう暇は「自分のために使える時間があること」「しなければならないことがなくて時間に余裕があること」のようにもっと明るい印象を受けます。
自由って誰にでも大事なものではありますが、私にとっては特に大事なものです。場所の自由、時間の自由、することの自由・・・。時間と自由と深くつながっているからビットコインが好きなのかもしれません。
Libero, libero ... したいことをする時間があること、自由があること。いい言葉ですね。Liberoな今に感謝しつつ、味わいたいです。
