INTRODUCTION:
AFANG LEAVE also known as WILD SPINACH. It's Botanical Name is Gnetum africanum. It's a green leaf vegetable used in mostly Nigeria, mostly in Akwa Ibom State. It's very very nutritional with so many health benefits. It's used in various delicacies, and can be used in diverse ways to make a good meal. Such as AFANG water leaves, AFANG and okro, AFANG and Banga, AFANG and ofor , AFANG and melon. The eastern part of Nigeria calls Okasi leave. .
NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS:
The health benefits of AFANG leaf is numerous but I will mention a few.
Skin Remedy: it helps in building a giving a healthy skin.
It contains a high number of iodine, for proper functioning of thyroid gland.
It helps in proper and Easy digestion.
It provides fiber, vitamins, minerals.
It boosts immunity, Niacin, riboflavin, potassium, Iron and lots more.
WHERE IT CAN BE FOUND:.
It's found a forest, or bush .
It can be planted in our environment, our backyard.
It can be transferable, I:e it can be moved for the actual position to our desired location, by uprooting it with it's root.
METHOD TO GROW IT.
It's absolute care , it's has to be nurture by watering it daily.
It should be planted in a Loamy soil with natural manure, like animals feeds.
METHOD OF PREPARATION:
Slicing the Again
Get the AFANG leaf either from the Market ( buy), or if you have in your backyard ( plug).
Plug the leaf from its stems.
Put it in a bowl and wash gently. This is to ensure there no diet.
Spread out for drying., in a tray.
Sliced it into a smaller pieces.
Done slicing
Pound it or grind it.
Then your pot of soup in the fire with all the necessary stock you choose to use to many it yummy ( like water leaf, stock fish, meat, cow skin, fish, periwinkles, crayfish for taste, Maggie, pepper, salt oil, and of course water) and any other thing u choose to add.
Allow your pot of soup to bubble, boil properly, to enable good taste.
Then add your already pound or grind AFANG leaf , then stir.
Your yummy AFANG soup is ready 😋😋.
METHOD FOR CONSUMPTION:
You can decide to use Garri, Fufu, semo, and which other method of swallow you prefer.
