Tuburan National High School- Tuburan, Cebu, Philippines
Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions is one of the subjects offered in the Philippines' Senior High School Curriculum and it offers seven major art forms such as painting, sculpture, architecture, film, literature, music and theater.
My colleague and good friend is a CPAR (Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions) subject teacher and she held some fun activities for the two sections she is handling : Mr. and Ms. Trasionista and Speech Choir.
Mr. and Miss Trasionista is a pageant like event wherein the contestants will be wearing recycled costumes or any costume made out of trash. The goal of this contest is to check their art skills and remind everyone of the importance of sustainability. Meanwhile, the "Speech Choir" is just the usual speech choir but the difference is that they are the ones making their script.
She handles these subjects for two sections namely Grade 12 Zeal and Grade 12 Compassion, these two sections are competing to get higher grades. This is a healthy competition among two sections here at Tuburan National High School - Tuburan, Cebu, Philippines.
The show began with a production number by the Mr. and Ms. Trasionshow and even had some back-up dancers. It was really like those of what you will be seeing in big pageants and shows.
Here is a photo of me and all the other judges.
There are two different sets of judges : one for the Mr. And Ms. Trasionshow and another set of judges for the Speech Choir.
After their production number, they inserted the Speech Choir Contest and Grade12-Zeal perfomed first.
After their performance, the other section, Grade 12 Compassion performed.
As an English Major myself, I am so amazed to see both sections perform their own-created Speech Choirs. They performed their pieces so well and they all had well-modulated voices and well-presented facial expressions. I love that they exerted effort and that they all practiced their pieces. All of them made equal efforts to achieve their victory.
After the two sections presented the speech choir, the contestants then walked around proudly with the costumes they created from trash and recycled materials.
Here are the female contestants with their partners.
The contestants all looked stunning on their costumes but my favorite one is contestand number two whose costume is made out of bottle covers or in Cebuano word "tansan".
She is my personal favorite but I am not a judge for the Mr. And Miss Trashionshow but my opinion does not matter since I am only here to judge the Speech Choir.
I love the details on her costume, the bottle cups were sewed delicately on her gown and it made it looks so sophisticated and the contestant walked gracefully showcasing the recycled costume.
After every presentation, it was time for the awarding ceremony. For the speech choir, Grade 12 Compassion won the Speech Choir Contest.
And these are the contestants that won Mr. And Ms. Trasionshow.
The man is contestant number four meanwhile the woman is contestant number two. The girl on the left side is the director of the show and the girl on the right is the subject teacher and my good friend.
They also handed us our certificates being the judges.
It was such a fun event and for sure the learners enjoyed it also. It showcased their artistry and teamwork and it is something that needs to be developed, the art of practicing a healthy competition.
To more events like this at school. Ciao! ❤️
