Some time ago I posted about this wonderful discovery here in Caracas. Well, I picked up a dozen cachitos and started working on them to give them to @annaky and @imabby17
After 6 years away in Brazil, @imabby17 is back for a visit, the main reason being her sister's HS graduation at the end of the month. I would have liked to be in Puerto Ordaz when she arrived, but fue to money constraints I had to stay in Caracas and save for the end of the month.
I know they are having a great time so far and I hope to join them soon and spend some time there with them.
In the meantime, I decided to work on this little crafts so that they can use them in whatever accessories they want.
@imabby17 had told me she would like to take some back to Brazil as souvenirs.
Here they are in their rustic seedpod state
The excess
And here I got a whole little plate to work on.
I had to put on some band-aids because the pressure and friction on the fingers can cause blisters.
I started just with sand paper and a knife.
Most of the pieces were the same size, except for two I had found in a previous occasion from a different pod.
After a couple of days, I had a few pieces pretty much done. However, I needed to find an efficient way to carve some sections and make some holes. I don't have any tools or know anyone who has.
So, I bought a cheap cutter and set of tiny screw drivers.
With some heat and pressure, it worked.
Now, I need to apply a finer sand paper for a softer finish and more varnish.
I'll get some leather cords and other materiales so my girls can turn these little dolphin-shaped wood shells into earrings, bracelets, necklaces, or whatever they want.
