When it comes to activities within the city of San Juan, the offer is quite wide and for all tastes. One of the main attractions of this place is its large green park of more than 10 hectares, for those who prefer to be in contact with nature, but in its surroundings there are several museums and theaters that can be visited if you like a little more silence. and the art. The most famous and largest of the theaters in this city is the Bicentenario Theater, which I had the opportunity to tour inside on one of the free guided tours offered by the local cultural agenda 😊.

Uno de los principales atractivos de este lugar es su gran parque verde de más de 10 hectáreas, para los que prefieren estar en contacto con la naturaleza, pero a sus alrededores hay varios museos y teatros que pueden visitarse si te gusta un poco más el silencio y el arte. El más famoso y grande de los teatros que hay en esta ciudad es el Teatro del Bicentenario, el que tuve la oportunidad de recorrer por dentro en una de las visitas guiadas y gratuitas que ofrece la agenda cultural local 😊.
This Bicentenario Theater is one of the most modern buildings in the city of San Juan. In reality, most of its constructions and buildings are very modern, because this city suffered a strong earthquake in the 1940s that forced everything to be rebuilt from scratch. Since then, everything that has been built here has to have seismic-resistant systems since seismic activity is very frequent in this area of our country.
Este Teatro del Bicentenario es uno de los edificios más modernos que tiene la ciudad de San Juan. En realidad, la mayoría de sus construcciones y edificios son nuy modernos, porque esta ciudad sufrió un fuerte terremoto en la década del 40 que obligó a reconstruir todo desde cero. Desde entonces, todo lo que han construido aquí tiene que contar con sistemas sismorresistentes dado que la actividad sísmica es muy frecuente en esta zona de nuestro país.
This theater was only built in 2016 and is undoubtedly one of the emblems of the city. When I first arrived, it was one of the things they recommended me to visit so I went to the guided tours in the afternoon. These are free and just by registering on their website, you can tour the facilities with a small group. I thought this service was very good to offer to tourists who are passing through here and want to get to know the important buildings a little more in depth ❤️.
Este teatro se construyó apenas en el 2016 y es sin dudas uno de los emblemas de la ciudad. Cuando apenas llegué, fue una de las cosas que me recomendaron visitar así que fuí a las visitas guiadas en horas de la tarde. Estas son gratis y solo con inscribirte en su página de internet, se pueden recorrer las instalaciones con un grupo reducido. Este servicio me pareció muy bueno para ofrecer a los turistas que estan de paso por acá y quieren conocer un poco más a fondo los edificios importantes ❤️.
The guided tour began in the main reception hall. Even this room is isolated from outside sounds, so as soon as we entered, there was absolute silence despite being surrounded by main avenues. In this hall there was also a very interesting permanent work made up of a book of scores and thousands of pages flying over it. This decoration seemed very minimalist and perfectly suited to the theater 💕.
La visita guiada comenzó en el salón principal de recepción. Incluso esta sala está aislada contra los sonidos exteriores, por lo que no bien entramos, ya se sentía absoluto silencio a pesar de estar rodeados de avenidas principales. When we crossed to the other side of the room, there was yet another barrier to outside sound. In this part of the teateo they even made us speak softer because our own voices echoed. As we approached the main room, the sound insulation barriers increased: even the floor was carpet to avoid the noise of footsteps. I found all these details amazing and very well thought out, which makes this theater of the highest category 😊.
Cuando cruzamos hacia el otro lado del salón, había otra barrera más al sonido exterior. En esta parte del teateo incluso nos hacían hablar más bajo porque retumbaban nuestras propias voces. A medidas que nos acercabamos a la sala principal, las barreras aislantes del sonido aumentaban: incluso el piso era de alfombra para evitar el ruido de los pasos. Todos estos detalles me parecieron asombrosos y muy bien pensados, lo que hacen a este teatro de la más alta categoría 😊.
On this guided tour they let us enter the main room of the theater. This room has capacity for more than 1,000 spectators, who can observe and listen to the works perfectly from any angle. The interesting details of the architecture of this place also reach this room, where the colors are designed not to distract the audience from what the stage is, and the materials of the seats are fireproof to avoid accidents. The stage also has an orchestra pit, which allowed this theater to host a lot of artistic and musical shows ☺️.
En esta visita guiada nos dejaron entrar hasta la sala principal del teatro. Esta sala tiene capacidad para más de 1000 espectadores, los cuales pueden observar y escuchar las obras perfectamente desde cualquier angulo. Los detalles interesantes de la arquitectura de este lugar también llegan hasta esta sala, donde los colores estan pensados para no distraer al público de lo que es el escenario, y los materiales de las butacas son ignífugos para evitar accidentes. El escenario también cuenta con una fosa para orquesta, lo que permitió a este teatro contar con un montón de espectáculos artísticos y musicales ☺️.
In addition to the large performance hall, the Bicentennial Theater also has a small conference room. This room also does not lose its style and construction details to have perfect acoustics. According to what we were told during the visit, this room is used for smaller events such as book presentations, thematic talks or defenses of university thesis. Although this theater is privately managed, it is available to the community if it is an event of general interest for the entire province, so its use can be requested by submitting a request to the management.
Además de la gran sala de espectáculos, en el Teatro del Bicentenario también hay una pequeña sala de conferencias. Esta sala tampoco pierde su estilo y detalles de construcción para ser de una acústica perfecta. Según lo que nos contaron en la visita, esta sala se usa para eventos más pequeños como presentaciones de libros, charlas temáticas o defensas de tesis universitarias. Si bien este teatro es de gestión privada, esta a disposición de la comunidad si se trata de un evento de interés general para toda la provincia así que se puede solicitar su uso elevando una solicitud a la gerencia.
The last stop on our guided tour was the locker room. Several plays have passed through this theater that have left the costumes they made as a donation, and many others that are repeated regularly so their outfits are here permanently for use. There are many works imported from abroad, but also a few national ones. The theater even has a costume and set design workshop where the San Juan residents themselves work on making the entire staging depending on the play. I found this interesting to generate jobs and contribute to the local cultural agenda ☺️.
La última parada de nuestra visita guiada fue la sala de vestuarios. Por este teatro pasaron varias obras que han dejado como donación los trajes que hicieron, y otras tantas otras que se repiten regularmente así que sus atuendos estan acá permanentemente para su uso. Hay muchas obras importadas del exterior, pero también unas cuantas nacionales. Incluso el teatro cuenta con un taller de vestuario y escenografía en donde los mismos sanjuaninos trabajan en la confección de toda la puesta en escena dependiendo la obra. Esto me pareció interesante para generar puestos de trabajo y contribuir a la agenda cultural local ☺️.

In total, the guided tour lasted almost an hour and we were able to tour almost all the interesting spaces inside. For its part, the exterior is also very beautiful and with a peculiar shape. They say that its roof was initially made of a silver metal that would purposely rust to achieve this color over time. I liked having participated in the visit because otherwise you would not have found out about all these curiosities ☺️.
En total, la visita guiada duró casi una hora y pudimos recorrer casi todos los espacios interesantes de su interior. Por su parte, el exterior tambien es muy hermoso y con una forma peculiar. Dicen que su techo inicialmente era de un metal plateado que a propósito se oxidaría para lograr este color con el tiempo. Me gustó haber participado de la visita porque de otra forma no me hubieses enterado de todas estas curiosidades ☺️.
The surroundings of the theater are also very beautiful to go and spend the afternoon. The theater has a large water fountain in front of it that reflects the large building and all its surroundings. Everything is very well decorated and this point is a great meeting point for tourists and neighbors. Other important buildings that can be seen around the tratro are the old San Juan train station, now transformed into the tourist information center, and also a small open-air amphitheater. Although the city's earthquake destroyed almost everything in the 1940s, some small parts of what the city used to be in its beginnings are still preserved, while still being one of the most modern that I visited ❤️.
Los alrededores del teatro también son muy hermosos para ir y pasar la tarde. El teatro tiene enfrente una gran fuente de agua que refleja el gran edificio y todos sus alrededores. Todo esta muy bien decorado y este punto es un gran punto de reunión para turistas y vecinos. Otros de los edificios importantes que se pueden ver alrededor del tratro son la antigua estación de trenes de San Juan, ahora transformada en el centro de informes turísticos, y también un pequeño anfiteatro al aire libre. A pesar de que el terremoto de la ciudad destruyó casi todo en la década del 40, aún se conservan algunas pequeñas partes de lo que solía ser la ciudad en sus principios, sin dejar de ser una de las más modernas que visité ❤️.
I quite liked having dedicated my day to visiting the theater and its surroundings. Now this walk is also included in my list of recommendations to give to guests staying at the hostel where I work. I think that when I arrived in the province of San Juan I didn't know much about the things there were to do here, but little by little I discovered that it is much more interesting than it seems, even though its tourism is not so widespread nationwide. compared to other provinces.
