Hello my dear friends, we are enjoying winter in my country, our winter is mild and there are very few gray days. Today is one of those sunny and cool days very pleasant to walk so we decided to take a walk through the historic center of Old Havana, we always appreciate the beauties of our city.
Today I want to share with you my visit to El Templete and my experience of performing a ritual that takes place every November 16, it is true that we are somewhat far from that date, but it is never too late to please ourselves.
The Templete is a monument built in 1828 to immortalize and honor the date on which the first mass and the first council were celebrated in Havana on November 16, 1519, marking the foundation of Havana. This event was carried out in the shade of a large ceiba tree existing in this place, over the years the ceiba died, but another one was always planted in its place to perpetuate the historical date in which Havana was founded.
It has a simple architecture with the design of a Greek temple, in the front it has 6 robust columns and inside the temple there is a bust of Christopher Columbus and on its walls there are beautiful canvases by the French painter Juan Bautista Vermay. These paintings show the first mass, the first council and the moment when the monument was inaugurated.
The space inside the room is narrow and you can't enter, I tried to take the photos in the best possible way so that all the paintings could be seen, the clarity of the exterior was a bit annoying to photograph, also its doors prevented a good shot. At the entrance we see a beautiful kitten guarding the place haha.
In the garden there is a central column with three sides with an image of the Virgin of the Pillar at the top, there is also a bust of the first governor of Havana, this column is called The Column of Cajigal who was governor who ordered it to be built in 1754 when the first ceiba tree disappeared so that there was a reference to the place where the village named San Cristóbal de La Habana was founded, it remains well preserved as part of the history of the place.
In Cuba there is a mixture between Spanish and African cultures, the ceiba is a sacred tree according to the African religion, it is said that it gives good luck if it is touched, kissed or hugged, for that reason on the eve of November 16 many people go to the ceiba tree of El Templete to make wishes, the ritual consists of circling the ceiba tree 3 times counterclockwise while touching it and making a wish.
I took advantage of this moment to perform the ritual for the first time with the traditional request for wishes to the ceiba tree, although it is not November 16, I felt very comfortable doing it and that is the most important thing.

Pidiendo mis deseos en El Templete
Hola mis queridos amigos, estamos disfrutando del invierno en mi país, nuestro invierno es suave y son muy pocos los días grises. Hoy es de esos días soleados y frescos muy agradable para caminar por lo que decidimos dar un paseo por el centro histórico de La Habana Vieja, siempre apreciamos las bellezas de nuestra ciudad.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi visita a El Templete y mi experiencia de realizar un ritual que se realiza cada 16 de noviembre, cierto que estamos algo lejos de esa fecha, pero nunca es tarde para complacernos.
El Templete es un monumento construido en 1828 para inmortalizar y homenajear la fecha en que se celebró la primera misa y el primer cabildo efectuado en La Habana el 16 de noviembre de 1519 marcando la fundación de La Habana. Este hecho se realizó a la sombra de una gran ceiba existente en este lugar, con el paso de los años la ceiba murió, pero siempre se sembraba otra en su lugar para perpetuar la fecha histórica en que se fundó La Habana.
Tiene una arquitectura sencilla con diseño de un templo griego, en el frente tiene 6 robustas columnas y en el interior del templo hay un busto de Cristóbal Colón y en sus paredes hay hermosos lienzos del pintor francés Juan Bautista Vermay. Estas pinturas muestran la primera misa, el primer cabildo y el momento en que fue inaugurado el monumento.
El espacio dentro del salón es estrecho y no se puede entrar, traté de tomar las fotos de la mejor manera posible para que se vieran todas las pinturas, la claridad del exterior molestaba un poco para fotografiar, también sus puertas impedían una buena toma. En la entrada vemos una hermosa gatica custodiando el lugar jaja.
En el jardín hay una columna central de tres lados con una imagen de la Virgen del Pilar en la parte superior, también hay un busto del primer gobernador de La Habana, Esta columna se llama La columna de Cajigal quien fue gobernador que mandó a construirla en 1754 al desaparecer la primera ceiba para que existiera una referencia del lugar donde se fundó la villa nombrada San Cristóbal de La Habana, se mantiene bien conservada como parte de la historia del lugar.
En Cuba hay una mezcla entre las culturas españolas y africanas, la ceiba es un árbol sagrado según la religión africana, se dice que da buena suerte si se toca, se besa o se abraza, por esa razón en la víspera del 16 de noviembre van muchas personas a la ceiba de El Templete a pedirles deseos, el ritual consiste en dar 3 vueltas alrededor de la ceiba en contra de las manecillas del reloj mientras se toca y se le pide un deseo.
Aproveché este momento para realizar por primera vez el ritual con la tradicional petición de deseos a la ceiba, aunque no es 16 de noviembre, me sentí muy a gusto haciéndolo y eso es lo más importante.
