The weekend arrived! Like every Saturday, I set out to visit the agricultural products fair in John Lennon Park in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado, located on the block between 15th, 17th, 6th, and 8th streets in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
I went around noon, hoping there would be fewer people so I could buy the products I needed more quickly. But I was surprised to see the number of people in the entire park. At each kiosk, there were many people gathered to buy, so I started walking around the park to see what I was interested in buying.
There were very fresh products that came straight from the fields, soil and all! Carrots, beets, onions, mangoes, also refrigerated meat products, eggs—in short, a wide variety of products.
I started shopping, but soon I was surprised to hear excellent quality music, real music.
That exquisite, very Cuban music was none other than Benny Moré, oh how I love it! Benny never goes out of style because it's authentic music, which never bores you and makes you move your body wherever you listen to it. Later, other great songs by renowned Cuban musicians of all time followed.
The music came from tents under the shade of ceiba and flamboyan trees blooming with their beautiful orange flowers. What a wonderful setting!
The person responsible for this marvel was the Zona Sonora project, which, in conjunction with the Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), brought us the best of Cuban music to achieve a "Summer that sounds like EGREM," as one could read on their posters. There were their banners, their stereos, and their records, which were also for sale.
I was amazed to see the participation of important DJs who were mixing music to give it a contemporary touch. Among them, I was able to see and hear Cuban DJ Reitt, as announced, very well-known internationally, but I hadn't had the opportunity to meet him before.
I learned that it's all part of the program they'll be developing during the summer months of July and August, and today was their first day of performance.
I can assure you that it filled me with energy and great joy. The truth is, our music is fabulous. As I walked, I imagined myself dancing, haha. I love dancing, but I restrained myself, of course, haha.
The park was filled with rhythm and excellent music. The best part was that even the statue of John Lennon seemed happy, with that eternal smile as if to say, "Finally, good music in my park." Yes, I even imagined him tapping his foot to our beat!
However, the heat was so intense that some decided to cool off with a cold beer, sitting under the shade of the trees while enjoying the music.
I hope you repeat this experience. Next Saturday, I'll see if they can give us some good music for our enjoyment. Would you like to experience this again?

Recibiendo el verano con excelente música en compañía de John Lennon
¡Llegó el fin de semana! Como cada sábado me dispuse a visitar la feria de productos agropecuarios en el Parque John Lennon del barrio habanero del Vedado situado en la manzana entre las calles 15, 17, 6 y 8 del municipio Plaza de la Revolución.
Fui cerca del mediodía con la esperanza de que hubiera pocas personas para comprar más rápido los productos que necesitaba. Pero mi sorpresa fue grande al ver la cantidad de personas que había en todo el parque. En cada quiosco había muchas personas agrupadas para comprar, comencé a recorrer todo el parque para ver lo que me interesaba comprar.
Había productos muy frescos que venían directo del campo ¡con su tierra y todo! zanahorias, remolachas, cebollas, mangos, también productos cárnicos refrigerados, huevos, en fin, gran variedad de productos.
Comencé a hacer mi compra, pero al poco tiempo me sorprendió escuchar una música de excelente calidad, música de verdad.
Esa música exquisita, muy cubana, era nada más y nada menos que del Benny Moré, ¡ay como me gusta! El Benny no pasa de moda porque es música auténtica, que no te aburre nunca y te hace mover el esqueleto donde quiera que la escuches. Después, le sucedieron otras grandes canciones de reconocidos músicos cubanos de todos los tiempos.
La música provenía de unas carpas que estaban bajo la sombra de los árboles de ceiba y de flamboyán florecidos con sus bellas flores color naranja. ¡Que maravilloso entorno!
El responsable de esta maravilla fue el proyecto Zona Sonora que, en conjunto con la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (Egrem), nos brindaba lo mejor de la música cubana para lograr un "Verano que suena a Egrem", como se podía leer en sus carteles. Ahí estaban sus pancartas, sus equipos de música y sus discos que también estaban a la venta.
Me asombró ver la participación de importantes DJ que mezclaban la música para dar un toque contemporáneo, entre estos pude ver y escuchar al DJ cubano Reitt, como lo anunciaron, muy reconocido a nivel internacional, yo no había tenido la oportunidad de conocerlo anteriormente.
Supe que todo es parte del programa que estarán desarrollando durante los meses de verano de julio y agosto, y hoy era su primer día de actuación.
Les puedo asegurar que me llenó de energía y de gran alegría. Lo cierto es que nuestra música es fabulosa, mientras caminaba me imaginaba bailando jaja, me encanta el baile, pero me contenía por supuesto jaja.
El parque se llenó de ritmo y de excelente música. Lo mejor de todo es que hasta la estatua de John Lennon parecía feliz, con esa sonrisa eterna como diciendo: "Finalmente, buena música en mi parque" ¡Sí, hasta me lo imaginé moviendo el pie al compás de nuestro son!
Eso sí, el calor estaba tan intenso que, algunos decidieron refrescarse con una cerveza bien fría sentados bajo la sombra de los árboles mientras disfrutaban de la música.
Deseo que repitan esta experiencia, el próximo sábado volveré a ver si nos regalan nuevamente buena música para nuestro disfrute. ¿Quisieran vivir esta experiencia?
