Good morning friends of @Dailyblog in Hive today I am going to tell you about our experience this week due to an unexpected and mysterious water supply cut in this city in the middle of the desert called Antofagasta.

As many of you know my wife, @zupasteleria, and I left Venezuela in search of a better place to live, without the difficulties of lacking electricity, water, transportation and security; apart from a better income. In the city of Antofagasta we found what we were looking for since we arrived, which translates into a better quality of life that we did not have before.

However, after 6 years living in Chile, this week happened what nobody expected, a water supply cut for 5 days that stopped more than half of the city. It should be noted that Antofagasta is located in the desert and the water we have for washing and cleaning is desalinated and for drinking we use purified water. Obviously for 6 years there were water cuts but they were programmed and never lasted more than 6 hours and when they did the company sent notices and made trucks available to supply drinking water. But this time everything was a disaster because allegedly due to the negligence of the operator of a contractor's backhoe, the only electric line that feeds the company "Aguas Antofagasta" was damaged.

This event occurred on Sunday morning and from then on the seams of the system began to show, there was no contingency plan to respond to the situation and we got the worst of it in the following days.

As it was not announced, we did not manage to accumulate water, so in the first instance we had to solve the situation with bottles of purified water, which is what we use for drinking and cooking, but in this case we also had to use it to wash the dishes.

On the other hand, the desperation of the people caused the supermarkets and small stores to run out of purified water and as was logical some of them raised their prices. The normal cost is 2.29 USD for a 20 liter bottle of water, but some even sold it for 11.46 USD.

Another negative aspect was the small number of drinking water distribution points and small distribution tanks that did not meet the needs of the population.

In my case I had to work from home and reschedule everything for the next week since almost no business worked during those days and at home I helped looking for water at the distribution points, which obviously had to be rationed by washing just what was necessary for the water to last at least until the next day. Fortunately we had some disposable plates and glasses, which helped us to overcome this difficulty. Even so, it was an unreal week by Chilean standards.

Thanks to this situation the company "Aguas Antofagasta" was exposed as being unprepared for this event or any other major system failure.

Finally looking at the positive side of this unfortunate situation I can highlight that I was able to recover properly from an ankle injury I had last month and also I was able to spend more time with my beautiful wife.

As a final reflection I learned that there is always a good opportunity in every situation, you just have to have the intelligence to take advantage of it. Buenos días amigos de @Dailyblog en Hive hoy les voy a contar nuestra experiencia vivida esta semana por un inesperado y misterioso corte del suministro de agua en esta ciudad en medio del desierto llamada Antofagasta.

Como muchos saben mi esposa, @zupasteleria, y yo nos fuimos de Venezuela en búsqueda de un mejor lugar para vivir, sin las dificultades de carecer de electricidad, agua, transporte y seguridad; aparte de mejores ingresos. En la ciudad de Antofagasta encontramos lo que buscábamos desde que llegamos lo que se traduce en una mejor calidad de vida que antes no teníamos.

Sin embargo después de 6 años viviendo en Chile, está semana ocurrió lo que nadie esperaba, un corte del suministro de agua por 5 días que detuvo a más de la mitad de la ciudad. Cabe destacar que Antofagasta está ubicada en el desierto y el agua que tenemos para lavar y limpiar es desalinizada y para beber usamos agua purificada.

Obviamente durante 6 años hubo cortes de agua pero eran programados y nunca duraron más de 6 horas y cuando los hubo la empresa enviaba avisos y colocaba a disposición camiones para suministrar agua potable. Pero está vez todo fue un desastre ya que presuntamente por negligencia del operador de una retroexcavadora de una contratista, se dañó la única línea eléctrica que alimenta la empresa "Aguas Antofagasta".

Este hecho ocurrió el domingo en la mañana y desde allí comenzaron a verse las costuras del sistema, no había plan de contingencia para responder ante la situación y nos tocó lo peor en los siguientes días.

Como no fue anunciado, no alcanzamos a acumular agua así que en primera instancia tuvimos que resolver la situación con botellones de agua purificada que es la que usamos para beber y cocinar, pero en este caso también tuvimos que usarla para lavar los platos.

Por otro lado la desesperación de la gente causó que los supermercados y almacenes pequeños se quedarán sin agua purificada y como era lógico algunos subieron los precios. El costo normal es de 2.29 USD por un botellón de agua de 20 litros, pero algunos llegaron a venderlo a 11.46 USD.

Otro aspecto negativo fue la poca cantidad de puntos de distribución de agua potable y tanques de distribución pequeños que no daban abasto para la necesidad de la población.

En mi caso me dediqué a trabajar desde casa y a reagendar todo para la próxima semana puesto que casi ningún negocio trabajó durante esos días y en casa ayudaba buscando agua en los puntos de distribución, que obviamente tocaba racionar lavando lo justo y necesario para que el agua alcanzara al menos hasta el día siguiente. Afortunadamente teníamos algunos platos y vasos desechables lo que nos ayudó a superar esta dificultad. Aún así, fue una semana irreal para los estándares de Chile.

Gracias a esta situación la empresa "Aguas Antofagasta" quedó en evidencia al mostrar falta preparación ante este evento u alguna otra falla mayor del sistema.

Finalmente viendo lo positivo de esta lamentablemente situación puedo destacar que me pude recuperar adecuadamente de una lesión del tobillo que tuve el mes pasado y además pude pasar más tiempo con mi bella esposa.
