I have heard this phrase on more than one occasion from the mouth of an uncle whom I love and admire very much, when you are a child and then a teenager, you usually listen to life recommendations and advice from adults not very willingly, most of what they tell you seems a nuisance, something boring or a lecture, but it is good that our parents, uncles and those close to us who love us do not give up and insist on repeating, because something always remains engraved in our minds.
Now, my grandmother had the gift of service was a selfless woman was something innate in her, she was always willing to help and support whoever needed it I did not understand much that, but she used to say that she was not sowing for her she was doing it for us, because we would be the ones who would reap the fruits.
Living surrounded by collaborating people I felt a little selfish, because I did not feel identified with helping others, I was not born and I wondered if I was someone selfish or evil, but no, it was simply that I had not found the area in which serving for me was a pleasure, something that made me feel really satisfied.
It turns out that my vocation in terms of volunteering and service lies in helping animals. Although I had already rescued some cats, it was a special case that led me to understand that by helping a helpless animal, I can change its life completely.
The case was that of a cat subjected to extreme mistreatment, locked in a small kennel. He did his business there, hardly ate and had forgotten what it was like to groom himself. When he arrived at my house he was in such a bad state that I thought he would die soon, but at least he would die in a dignified way.
Still expecting the worst, I took him to the vet, I followed the recommendations to the letter and to my surprise love changed his life and for a little more than a year he was free, loved and happy, he became a cat again in every sense of the word.
There I began to rescue and help cats as I could, since living in an apartment and already having other cats was not healthy or advisable to fill me with animals, as having them overcrowded is also animal abuse, so I focused on giving temporary to those I could and get them decent homes.
Living this experience made me and makes me feel satisfied, although nowadays I am not so fully involved in this type of volunteering; the reason as I mentioned before is space, but money and time also play a role, because when you rescue an animal you have to take it to the vet, which implies spending time for it and also paying for these services and you do not always have donations to cover veterinarian and food expenses.
On the other hand, whatever the type of volunteer and service you decide to support, there will be those who criticize and say that it is better to help in another cause and in other ways and usually those who are not doing anything for anyone and in a bad way will tell you that, so you have two options to ignore them or respond in the best way possible, although some people really do not deserve consideration, because it seems that they have come to this world only to criticize and not to contribute anything.
In summary, I believe that we can all provide volunteer service, even if it is from our point of view, not necessarily from a foundation or community. There will be some who criticize you, but knowing that you helped someone else, even a little bit, and knowing that you did it from your heart will make you feel satisfied. Esta frase le he escuchado en más de una oportunidad de la boca de un tío a quien quiero y admiro mucho, cuando se es un niño y luego un adolescente, uno suele escuchar las recomendaciones de vida y consejos de los adultos no de muy buena gana, la mayoría de lo que te dicen te parece un fastidio, algo aburrido o un sermón, pero es bueno que nuestros padres, tíos y aquellos cercanos que nos aman no se rindan e insistan en repetir, pues siempre queda algo grabado en nuestras mentes.
Ahora bien, mi abuela tenía el don de servicio era una mujer abnegada era algo innato en ella, siempre estaba dispuesta a ayudar y a apoyar a quien lo necesitara yo no comprendía mucho aquello, pero ella solía decir que no estaba sembrando para ella que lo hacía para nosotros, pues seriamos quienes cosecharíamos los frutos.
Al vivir rodeada de personas colaboradoras me sentía un poco egoísta, pues no me sentía identificada con ayudar a otros, no me nacía y me preguntaba si era alguien egoísta o malvada, pero no, era que simplemente no había encontrado el área en la cual el servir para mí fuera un placer algo que me hiciera sentir realmente satisfecha.
Resulta que mi vocación en cuanto a voluntariado y servicio está en ayudar a los animales. Aunque ya había rescatado algunos gatos, fue un caso en especial, el que me llevó a entender que al ayudar a un animal desamparado, puedo cambiar su vida por completo.
El caso fue el de un gato sometido a maltrato extremo, encerrado en un kennel pequeño. Hacía sus necesidades en ese sitio, casi no comía y había olvidado lo que era acicalarse. Cuando llego a mi casa estaba en tan mal estado que creí moriría pronto, pero que al menos lo haría de forma digna.
Aun esperando lo peor, lo llevé al veterinario, seguí las recomendaciones al pie de la letra y para mi sorpresa el amor cambió su vida y por poco más de un año fue libre, amado y feliz, volvió a ser un gato en todo el sentido de la palabra.
Allí comencé a rescatar y ayudar a gatos como podía, ya que al vivir en un departamento y tener ya otros gatos no era sano ni recomendable llenarme de animales, ya que el tenerlos hacinados también es maltrato animal, así que me centré en dar temporales a los que podía y conseguirles hogares dignos.
Vivir esta experiencia me hizo y me hace sentir satisfecha, aunque actualmente no estoy tan de lleno en este tipo de voluntariado; el motivo como ya mencioné es espacio, pero también influye el dinero y el tiempo, porque, cuando se rescata un animal hay que llevarlo al veterinario, lo que implica emplear un tiempo para ello y también costear dichos servicios y no siempre se cuenta con donaciones para cubrir gastos a veterinarios y comida.
Por otra parte, sea cual sea el tipo de voluntario y servicio en el que se decida apoyar no faltara quien critique y diga que mejor es ayudar en otra causa y de otras maneras y por lo regular te lo dirán los que no están haciendo nada por nadie y de mala manera, así que tienes dos opciones ignorarlos o responderles de la mejor manera posible, aunque algunas personas la verdad no se merecen consideración, porque parece que hubieran venido a este mundo solo a criticar y a no aportar nada.
En resumen, creo que todos podemos prestar servicio voluntario, así sea desde nuestra óptica, no necesariamente desde una fundación o comunidad. No faltará quien te critique, pero el saber que ayudaste a otro, así sea un poquito, y sabiendo que lo hiciste de corazón te hará sentir satisfecho.
