As we look at the complexities of our modern world, it is becoming increasingly clear that the act of giving is not only a moral imperative but also a vital component of building a more compassionate and equitable society. This year, one of my targets or resolution is to raise a generation of individuals who embody the spirit of generous giving, recognizing that the effects of their selflessness have the potential to transform lives and communities.
Recent research has underscored the powerful reality that a significant number of individuals struggle to access basic needs or necessities, including three square meals, education, and adequate clothing. Poverty, in all its forms, continues to cast a long shadow and net over the lives of countless people, stifling their potential and perpetuating cycles of disadvantage. However, I firmly believe that you and I have the power to make a difference.
Over the course of Friday, 21st, and Saturday, 22nd February 2025, I had the privilege of visiting several villages
, including Agwadi, Nuku, and Baya Duse. During my time in these communities, I conducted Journey of Generosity (JOG) training sessions with women
who have caught the vision of reaching out to the poor and less privileged in their neighborhoods. These remarkable individuals are committed to providing for the needs of those around them, demonstrating the transformative impact that generous giving can have.
The experience was nothing short of eye-opening. Witnessing firsthand the resilience and determination of these women, I was struck by the profound potential for positive change that exists when we come together to support one another. As we explored the complexities of poverty and the importance of generous giving, it became clear that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact.
So, what can we do to raise a generation of generous givers? Firstly, we must lead by example, demonstrating the value of selflessness and compassion in our own lives. Secondly, we must create opportunities for individuals to engage in acts of giving, whether through volunteering, donating to charitable causes, or simply being present for those in need. Finally, we must foster a culture that celebrates and rewards generosity, recognizing that the true measure of our wealth lies not in our material possessions but in the positive impact we have on the lives of others.
As we embark on this journey of raising a generation of generous givers, I am reminded of the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi, who once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
