This(double dating) is something some see as a smart survival strategy/plan in this game called love, some believe it leads to disaster, but I have my thought about it...
Have not been to too many places, but here in Nigeria, love is a gamble o, you might love someone today and tomorrow you are unsure of your feelings again.Everyone fears heartbreak, thereby they don't want to invest, or is it waste their time, emotions, energy, money and all on one person and at the end of the day all goes awful. So, for many, double dating feels like a safe haven, its like having a spare tire just In case, or its like having a generator or solar in place just in case light goes off. The idea is never to be left alone, when one crashes, there's another abode elsewhere.
And at first, double dating might sound or looks like a good, smart move until one realizes that handling a(one)partner is enough work on its own, not to talk of having two. Love is not just about receiving good morning texts, planning matching outfits, saying I love you, planning dates and all, love requires time, effort, commitment, transparency, let me add this before they come for me... Love require money too. Imagine eating two plates of diffent food at once, there will be a time where you will mix things up, you will call the wrong plate, you will eat one twice before realizing its the turn for the other, and before you know it, you’re not even sure who you really have feelings for and then you are out in the open
Now, If you are double dating, it means you already know that your partner is doing the same. So, there's always this things deep down that make you never to fully trust your partner, reason being that, you double date too, you feel your partner pretends same way you are doing too, and you think both of you are just playing safe. You can’t expect faithfulness when you’re not giving it. Anything extra always have its own extra consequences, just like the popular Nigera saying..."who dey find extra food/plate go still run enter bush."
Also, am not a fan of double dating, even one partner has its its own challenges, issues, misunderstandings and all those annoying things. And then, you still decide to double the wahala(problem). Its always either that you are begging one here and being rude to the other, or that both is in their off moods, the chances of both being good at the same time is slight. And if both relationships crash at the same time, thats premium heartbreak oo.
The truth will always find a way out, how many secrets truly stay hidden? Sooner or later, someone will talk, someone will find out, and it will all come crashing down. You will even hear your gist in places you never expected.
So, to the question, is double dating something we should embrace? Personally, I frown agait it. If you are scared of heartbreak, then take your time before going into a relationship, try choose better, pay attention to red flags, and also, don't rush, don't be in haste, what if you have a good heart and the other party does not . No matter how many people you date In a go, heartbreak will still find you..You can't expect to live like that and not get served too. Love is raking risk, you must be committed, just be loyal, play your part, take your time to know who you fall in love with, you can't avoid it, so just be good on your part, avoiding all those is like saying you won't board or buy a car just because car accident often happen.
When it(love)is real, it(love) is sweet. If its just one person, there will be a kind of bond, something that will keep you both together, to always work things out. But double dating, it will even drain you. If you’re single, just enjoy your single pringle, and if you’re in love, either be all in or be all out. But sitting on two boats at the same time, just know one or both will sink, and you might go down with it.
