Good day everyone ☺️. Thank you for reading my blog as I share with you an Unforgettable Experience.
Till today, anytime I think about that incident, I feel afraid and traumatized.
I was always changing school, not because of I did something bad but due to once reason or the other, like school fees issues or we were moving to another state.
I had joined this school because of my former school fees had increased to two hundred plus for only a term and that was just for when I was still in junior secondary school.
I was just entering Jss2 when the school made that increments and my sister was planning to join me in the school, it was a boarding school.
My Dad said he couldn't afford the fees for my sister and I and asked us to change.
They changed us to a subordinate school of where they are working.
I was happy because It was easier for my parents to visit us or come for visiting day as they had never done so for me when I was in that other school.
I didn't exactly like the school due to how it was, especially since I was coming from a private boarding school to a federal one, so the change in environment was massive.
I hadn't been that close to bushes before or even cut grasses, but it became a daily something for me in this school.
I wasn't exactly the outgoing type so I had little friends and my friends was just confined to my class of 30.
I didn't have one outside of Jss 2a.
I had a bunk mate from the junior class. She was in Jss 1 and she was a chronic bed-wetter.
Imagine sleeping and suddenly you'd have an awful smelling yellow liquid dripping unto your face.
Another things I how she would eat and crumbs will be everywhere on the bed. If she ate or licked her Milo, you would know, because of how sticky her bedsheet will become.
That night, I had just come back from night class and since I had arranged my bed before leaving, I just had to remove my clothes, change into my night wear to sleep.
I had also taken my bath so I didn't go to bath again. I was really afraid of that bathroom because of the rats that gave that place a chronic visit.
I greeted those around me and slept. I am the type of person to sleep after laying my head on the pillow for a few minutes.
Yeah, it was that easy for me to sleep.
I was still sleeping but it was getting time for me to wake up and I started hearing some sounds.
Usually, I sleep straight... Like flat on the bed and I rarely turn. So, I sleep in one position throughout my sleep.
I didn't like the noise I was hearing and opened my eyes.
Guess what I saw?
I almost fainted at the sight of it. Two rats were feasting on my legs and one on my hair.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
I screamed so bad that everyone woke up. They were shocked, while me I had already disappeared from my bed to the center of the room.
That day I regretted tucking my net so tight before sleeping, because it took me a while to leave the bed.
With everyone awake, they began asking me what happened and after I explained they would laugh at me and say, "Is that why you are screaming."
"Just common rat and you are screaming like this."
"Don't ever scream like this again."
There was nothing I was not told that early morning. Some even said I should compensate them for their sleep.
I was so scared, but with everyone now bustling about, I felt the rats should have gone.
The rats did go, but one fell into someone's water and the person told me to fetch it back for her.
I told her to throw the water and I will use my own water to substitute.
I decided to go and bath, but when I opened my cupboard where I drop my soap, sponge and provisions.
I almost screamed once again, but remembering the warning, I only ran far away from the cupboard.
It happened that one rat had opened my Milo, my milk and my biscuits.
Something I had been saving and unwilling to touch. I just weak and wanted to cry.
The worst part was that my cupboard was at the far corner of the room while I stayed on the bunk close to the window and close to the middle of the room.
That was also when I noticed that one packet of my biscuits was also missing.
I wanted to dispose off the things the rats have eaten but one of my roommates asked me to give it to her which I did.
I cleared my cupboard and rearranged it that morning after bathing.
Then, I went to the person my parents usually give pocket money to hold for us and told him about what happened to me.
He called my parents and they came that morning with a kind of balm, cause the rats had given me and injury to my leg.
Since that day, my fear for rats multiplied.
After that semester, my parents changed me to another school, where I became a day student.
Till today, I still fear rats.
