I hope you guys are all okay wherever you are in the world.
All of us, when it comes to building our own house we have our own preferred type of build and finishes (the kind of materials to be used in building and finishing our own house).
In this article, I will let dive into the type of building materials and finishes that I like very much.
Here they are...
Concrete - for building walls and floors
Concrete is the most widely used material when building walls and floors of a structure. It is very durable and can last a lifetime.
I chose concrete because of its durability
Steel - for building roof frame and reinforcing walls and floors
Steel is the most widely used material in reinforcing the built of walls and floors. Just like concrete, it is very durable and can also last a lifetime.
I chose steel because of its durability
Floor Finishing on Living Room - Ceramic tiles with Wood coverings (this is my #1 choice)
Take a look at the floor finishing of a living room in the photo below. That kind of tiles combination is what I like very much for my living room.
With that said, I like the floor finishing of my living room to be like the ceramic tiles and wood coverings in the photo below.
Why I chose this kind of floor finishing: Just like what I am always saying I choose this kind of finishing because it is very minimal, neat, and I think it is easy to clean too.
Floor Finishing on Living Room - Ceramic Tiles (this is my #2 choice)
Take a look at the floor finish on the photo below, I also like this kind of tile design. I would like my living room floor finishing to be like this.
I chose this type of tile finish because of its minimal design.
Inside wall finishing - White paint or Light Blue paint
On choosing the finishing for my inside walls I always prefer white paint and light blue paint.
I chose this kind of finishing because it reflects lights from every direction making the living room brighter thus needing less lighting.
Inside wall finishing - Skirting
Aside from white paint and light blue paint, I would also like to install a skirt on the inside walls of the house that I am going to build.
Take a look at the photo below, that kind of wall skirting is what I like to be installed.
I chose to install a skirt on the inside walls because it covers the boundary between the floor and wall, it does also make the wall more pleasing to eyes.
Inside wall finishing - Crown/Cornice molding
Aside from installing a skirt at the bottom of the wall, I would also want to install molding on the boundary between walls and ceiling.
I like to have crown/cornice molding installed so that it conceals the boundary between the wall and the ceiling thus making it more pleasing to eyes.
Inside wall finishing - Architrave on doors and windows
If I am going to install a skirt and molding I would also want to install architraves on doors and windows.
I chose architraves for concealing the boundary of the door frame and the wall thus making the door more pleasing to eyes.
Ceiling finishing - Fire-resistant plasterboard
Whenever I choose a material to build my ceiling I always chose the material that is fire-resistant. With that said I will be using fire-resistant plasterboard for my ceilings.
I chose plasterboard because of its fire-resistance property thus lessening the occurrence of fire.
Roof finishing - Concrete roof tiles
When it comes to building my roof for my house my first choice is always a concrete roof. They are known to be durable and fire-resistant too.
I chose concrete roof tiles for my roof because they are known to last up to 50 years.
Bedroom floor finishing - Wood floor covering
The aforementioned inside wall, door, ceiling, and window finishing will also be applied to the bedroom, the exception is the floor finishing, I want a wood covering finish on my bedroom this time just like the photo below.
I chose a wood floor covering finish for my bedroom because of the elegant ambiance that it brought to the bedroom itself.
Stairs Finishing - Wood coverings
Take a look at the right side of the photo below, the stair has a wood covering, I like my stair to be like it.
I chose a wood covering finish for my stair because it brings elegance to the stairs themselves.
Kitchen and sink finishing - Wood floor coverings, ceramic tiles for the sink walls.
Take a look at the photo below, that's exactly how I like the finishing of my kitchen. The floor will be covered with wood, the sink wall will be finished with ceramic tiles.
I chose wood coverings and ceramic tiles finish just like the photo below because of the elegance that it brings to the ambiance of the whole kitchen.
Outside wall finishing - Stone wall cladding
Here's the one thing that I cannot fully make my mind to, whether I will choose a brown accent stone wall cladding or a gray accent stone wall cladding for my outside walls. So, I will be showing them both to you so that you can have a clear idea of why I cannot fully decide.
I will be choosing a brown accented and gray accented stone wall cladding finish for my outside wall because of the elegance that they bring to the walls.
Below are my two choices for the stone wall cladding finish for my outside walls...
First, is a brown accented stone wall cladding
Next, is a gray accented stone wall cladding just like the photo below
Below is a good example of a gray accented stone wall cladding finish that I want for my outside walls finishing.
And that will be my choices for the building materials and finishes that I am going to choose if I am going to build a house. What about yours?
