Walking with my daughter, we decided to visit one of the most emblematic places in my city, as it is one of the oldest buildings, dating back to colonial times: the Archbishop's Palace of Caracas. Its structure is that of an old colonial mansion with all the architectural features typical of these buildings, large windows, wide corridors, decoration, and wooden ceilings, giving it a timeless feel. It seems that when you walk through the main door, you are immersed in another era.
Caminando con mi hija, se nos ocurrió pasar a visitar uno de los lugares más emblemáticos de mi ciudad, por ser una de las construcciones más antiguas, pues data de la época colonial y es el Palacio Arzobispal de Caracas; cuya estructura viene a ser una vieja casona colonial con todas las características arquitectónicas, propias de estas construcciones, grandes ventanales, amplios pasillos, decoración y techos con base a la madera, dándole un toque atemporal, pareciera que al traspasar su puerta principal, uno se sumergiera en otra época.
And to add more charm to my visit, it was our first time there because, despite being located in the historic center of my city, it had not caught our attention enough to visit it. At first, we thought it was not open to the public; in fact, it had been that way for a while. Therefore, I thought that perhaps it was still the same, but no, I was fortunately mistaken. There we found everything related to the Catholic Church, as its origin was for that place to serve as a residence for bishops. Today it is considered a National Historic Monument.
Y para agregarle más encanto a mi visita, era nuestra primera vez que lo visitábamos porque, a pesar de encontrarse en el casco histórico de mi ciudad, no nos había llamado la atención como para entrar a visitarle. En un primer momento, pensamos que no estaba abierto al público; de hecho, estuvo un tiempo así. Por lo tanto, pensé que a lo mejor seguía igual, pero no, señores, estaba equivocada afortunadamente. Allí encontramos todo lo que tiene que ver con la parte religiosa eclesiástica católica, pues su origen, fue para que aquel lugar sirviera de residencia para los obispos. Hoy día es considerado un Monumento Histórico Nacional.
There you can see all kinds of items related to the investiture of bishops, cardinals, and even popes, such as photos, oil paintings, religious articles, and religious relics. In addition, the interior of the mansion is very pleasant, as it has its own interior garden, typical of this type of building, which gives the whole space a fresh feel. But there is a small room that made a small pause in the middle of my visit, and that is the Cardinal's Library Óscar Yanes Collection, named after our distinguished journalist of the same name, who was a very educated and wise man. I loved his work because he had a way of presenting our history in a very simple yet very knowledgeable way, as he also had a touch of poetry.
En el lugar se puede apreciar todo tipo de artículos propios de la envestidura de obispos, cardenales, hasta de los papas, tales como fotos, pinturas al óleo, artículos religiosos, reliquias religiosas; aparte el interior de la casona, es muy agradable, pues tiene su respectivo jardín interior, propio de este tipo de edificaciones, brindándole frescura a todo el espacio. Pero hay una pequeña habitación que hizo un pequeño paréntesis en medio de mi visita y es la Biblioteca Cardinalicia Colección Óscar Yanes, llamada así por nuestro insigne periodista, titular de ese nombre, que era un hombre muy instruido y sabio, me encantaba su trabajo, porque tenía una forma de exponer nuestra historia de una manera muy sencilla y a la vez muy versada, pues también tenía su toque de poeta.
In that small space, there are a large number of books from floor to ceiling, arranged around a wooden desk next to his chair. On top of the desk were some old copies and his characteristic hat, which he always wore in public. Behind the chair is a picture of the journalist, where you can see who this great character was. Personally, I loved to hear and see him, as he had a very entertaining television program on culture. This took me back to those years, and I relived them when I saw all that. It moved me.
En ese pequeño espacio, hay una gran cantidad de libros del piso al techo, ordenados alrededor de un escritorio de madera junto a su silla. Encima del escritorio, reposaban unos viejos ejemplares y su característico sombrero con el cual siempre aparecía al público; tras de la silla, está un cuadro del periodista, donde se puede apreciar quién era este gran personaje. Personalmente, me encantaba oírlo y verlo, pues tenía un espacio televisivo de cultura, muy entretenido. Esto me llevó a esos años y lo reviví cuando vi todo aquello. Eso me emocionó.
The visit was full of artistic works, which delighted our eyes, as my daughter and I share a taste for these cultural structures; so it was a visit that we enjoyed very much.
