Over the years, I came to realize that architectural buildings have become the icon of a modern city. It's not just about the place anymore, for me, it's also about the architecture that made a specific place unique. Among all of the places that I visited, Singapore is the city that astounded me to my very core. I'm just amazed at how they managed to preserve the historical buildings while building new architectural marvels that go along with them.
For this post, allow me to showcase one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture that I've personally witness and experienced as well.
Allow me to present the Marina Bay Sands building through my lens.
Like every tourist in this city, the Marina Bay Sands was my first stop. The Light Show that happens every night is the best welcome experience that I had during this night. It's a magical show that everyone may watch for free. This is what you get when modern architecture is decorated with a luxurious welcoming effect.
As much as I wanted to get a closer look at the show, the viewing deck (on the left side of the image) is packed with people who are also enjoying the show.
In an architectural sense, what made this building unique? Let's look at the features that this building may confidently boast to the whole world.
Sky Park
Looking at it from the ground made me realize how small I am in comparison to the scale of this building. The Sky Park occupies a 3-acre space or equivalent to 12,140 square meters; it's bigger than a combined area of two (2) football fields. It's supported by three (3) buildings that act as pillars to carry 191,000 kg of stainless steel. In addition, the pool is also filled with 1,425 cubic meters of water which is equivalent to a half Olympic size swimming pool.
Standing on the floor of Sky Park feels inspiring. I have a 360-degree view of the whole of Singapore. Now, everything feels smaller in comparison to when I'm looking up to it.
I felt lucky to have this view from my room. Looking at Marina Bay in the afternoon is more than satisfactory. In the foreground is the ArtScience Museum while in the background is the Esplanade Theater.
The ArtScience Museum building was inspired by the form of a Lotus flower. It's also known as "The Welcoming Hand of Singapore".
At the base of the building is a calming view of a lotus pond. It represents the continuity of the design of the building.
