How are you guys? I hope and pray that all of us, especially members of the Architecture+Design Community, are always healthy and happy in this life. I can also confirm that all members in this community are always in a very enthusiastic condition because every day we get various interesting posts about unique and interesting designs and architecture from all members from all over the world. This time, I also want to participate again in this community by sharing my impressions and experiences of a building that has a charming design and architecture. The trip took me to Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining, one of the cafes and restaurants that has character and is interesting for us to discuss.
Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining
This restaurant is located at Abdullah Lubis Street no. 6 A Medan Baru District, Medan City – North Sumatra. Abdullah Lubis Street area is one of the famous culinary areas in my city. This street has many choices of cafes, restaurants or coffee shops that have many different concepts to attract the attention of visitors, one of which is Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining, which has also become viral on social media for the urban community of Medan and surrounding cities.
I came to Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining in the afternoon, I had an appointment with my old friend at the restaurant. He admitted that he was very curious about this place because he often saw many people coming here from social media. My friend works in an oil palm plantation outside the city, about 9-10 hours from Medan City and naturally, he is curious about this cafe. But I also never come here and this is also my first visit to this cafe. I arrived 30 minutes earlier than the promised time, so I had the impression I had already come to this place for my friend.
Blu Jardin is right on the side of the road and we can see directly from the building of this restaurant. the parking location is very limited and narrow. This restaurant is famous for its garden café concept and it seems that it can't be seen only from the outside of this restaurant building. We can also see the logo of this restaurant from here, I like the design, the color selection, font design and also the design is very simple but very memorable for the visitors.
Cafe or Flower Garden ?
My first impression before entering, I feel that this Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining is not very spacious. However, my first impression turned out to be wrong. This restaurant building is very spacious and has a lot of space which is very beautiful and well conceptualized. When I opened the door, I saw so many plants and flowers in this one room. I think all these flowers and plants are not only room ornaments but also the interior concept design of this café.
The concept of an indoor garden for a coffee shop or café is becoming popular today. The garden concept can give visitors the beauty and comfort of space and create a beautiful view for our eyes. In addition, a well-organized and well-conceived garden café will be very suitable for the needs of the urban community for their social media content. Visitors can take pictures, upload on social media because Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining provides lots of space and corners to express themselves.
The indoor building of Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining consists of one large building with several rooms or spaces separated by partitions with colorful paint colors. Each room has a different paint color and is very comfortable for our eyes, such as wood color, green color, beige color etc. I also like the choice of furniture used by this cafe in this indoor room, Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining uses chairs and tables made of wood so that it is in harmony with the indoor garden concept they are trying to display.
The part that caught my attention was the choice of decoration for the roof, very beautiful, unique and cheerful. Usually, a café or coffee shop decorates the top of the building with hanging ornaments, but this café makes the roof of the indoor room look like a flower garden by placing various colorful artificial flowers. I understand more and more, why many people take pictures in this café, Blu Jardin has many places to express the joy and love of every visitor who comes here.
Outdoor Space and Fixed Garden Concept
I'm looking for information about what the word "Blu Jardin" means, I can't find any reference to the word "Blu" and I don't know what language it's from, maybe it's from "Blue" or from the initials of the owner of this café. However, "Jardin" seems to come from French which means flower garden. That seems to make the most sense. Blu Jardin is a café and restaurant styled like a flower garden. From the choice of name, the concept of the cafe is already imagined.
If, in the indoor part of this café, the garden concept has been used. How about the outdoor space? of course. Consistency with gardens, flowers and plants is the design and architectural choice of this outdoor space cafe. The location of the outdoor space of this café is at the back or outside of this café. Just at a glance, I feel this place is perfect for relaxing with friends or for having a garden party.
If the indoor space uses a lot of artificial plants, in this section our eyes will see many trees and plants that are neatly arranged on the edge. Several pots of monstera deliciosa king with wide leaf sizes become ornaments that make this outdoor space green. Blu Jardin also uses Calathea Lutea (a plant like broad banana leaves) to give visitors a cool and peaceful impression.
Blu Jardin Coffee & Dining uses a choice of furniture (tables and chairs) made of iron with a minimalist design. Choosing furniture for an outdoor room is certainly different from an indoor room, we must choose furniture that is strong with weather changes (heat and rain) and is also durable to use for the long term. Why do cafes or coffee shops in Indonesia always have outdoor space? apart from the design and architectural factors of the building owner, this is also related to the smoking habit of the majority of Indonesian people. These smokers include consumers who are "sexy", they like to come to cafes, hangouts, spend money and time so that the owners of coffee shops and cafes will always provide a special place for them.
