Oh yes, I want to tell you about a place that is very interesting to me. This place is called the post office, but this post office feels very special. Because it is located in the old city area which is a tourist spot in West Jakarta, Indonesia. So, the place becomes special. At that time, the old city area was the city center of the Dutch East Indies government. So, all these buildings become very interesting from the design and interior.
Unlike the other buildings, this post office has the name Post-en telegraph office. This post office was deliberately built in the city center of the Dutch East Indies Government. Because the flow of information in the city must be received very quickly. This building has another name, namely the City Post Office.
Until now, this building still functions as a post office, but there are some parts that are used as exhibition venues. Several years ago, this place served as a museum. However, this year several places functioned as exhibition halls. Usually, there is an exhibition of paintings or photos here. I feel like this place is timeless. The design of this building is still the prima donna to this day.
I think the government is developing this building further. So, the function can be felt to the fullest. Currently, this building has two functions. First, this building functions as a post office with the function of collecting, sorting, transmitting and sending letters to several cities in Indonesia. The second function is as a museum, because it is related to cultural heritage. So, there needs to be an aspect of protecting and preserving Indonesia's cultural wealth. I agree that some places here are made into exhibition spaces.
Currently, the Old Town Area is a representative of the past buildings that are still a public concern. many young people come to this place. I must admit, if the design and architecture in this place is not eaten by time. this place is very beautiful in terms of design. I often visit this place.
I want to discuss the building at the City Post Office. This building was designed using an early modern style, commonly called Nieuwe Zakelijkheid. This design and architecture is very popular in the Netherlands. It became popular in Indonesia in the late 1920s. The only interesting thing about this design is that it adapts to Indonesia's tropical climate, as well as the "double facade". This double faade is a distinctive element of Tropical Indies architecture. It's interesting, isn't it?
In fact, other places are designed in the same style. One of them is the Bank Mandari Museum. I want to explain the design of Nieuwe Zakelijkheid's form is very simple. In fact, from the Dutch design and architecture that has ever existed in Indonesia, this design is very simple compared to other building designs. In fact, it is considered a minimalist design. In this style, it usually includes only the shapes and angles of the unadorned design.
