It's always fun and quite challenging when it comes to designing small spaces. I was always attached to interior design rather than devoted myself to doing exterior projects. I don't know but I always felt interested in doing landscape and interior projects throughout my architecture career. I enjoy doing small projects including tiny detailed work. It's not like I don't like to do exterior building projects, as a professional architect I have realized that I am more comfortable doing tiny detailed interior projects and landscape works. I would say it's my preference and I know I do it nicely.
I do like exploring the architecture, small details of a building, or a landmark though I am not involved with the architectural works directly now. But I have started my career again organizing and managing small projects mostly interior-based work or product design. Nowadays many people work as an interior designers and they are doing good. There are many opportunities I see as an organizer and an architect and I love doing such work, to be honest.
I am now a part of an event organizing team and it's just beginning.
Design of a Photo Studio
From the past till now, the material industry has been grown drastically. The architecture world evolved, new design concepts have been introduced, new construction methods emerged in designs and now we are in the modern architecture world. When I try to relate past design concepts with the current conceptual designs, I feel astonished thinking how far we have come.
The best part is living here in Ukraine gave me the opportunity to relate old soviet period architecture and Scandinavian architecture. Here most of the buildings are from the soviet period, old but still holding their pride. Their durability is worthy to applaud and their silence expresses the history and struggle of ages. No matter how old the building looks like, the interior is completely different and fully repaired (ремонт). The buildings which are from the government are very old, probably 30-40 years old but the interior is completely modern, renovated, and repaired.
When I first experienced such kind of place, I was completely shocked. The studio picture you are seeing here is located in a multipurpose building that had seemed abandoned from far away. The location name is Academica Pavlova, the old skyscraper of the Soviet period, 7th floor. The building lobby is scary, broken and the staircase is dark and broken almost. This was basically an office building and I assumed that during USSR, this was one of the modern administrative Government buildings. But now most offices of companies or different sectors of government moved from here to another location and this building stayed like this without any maintenance. So, as the government doesn't pay any attention to such buildings, people who open their office here do only interior renovation, other parts stayed the same.
Nowadays people prefer good locations for their office so this type of commercial building is now rent for either small personal offices or storages or photo studios like this. In Kharkiv, photo studios are very popular for different events and there are many studios here for indoor photoshoots during winter.
Now let's talk about this PhotoStudio.
This studio is owned by a company called "Photo Palace". We had rented this studio for 1 week for our new-year event. We had decorated this studio along with existing furniture and decorations. The bed, fireplace, and some other furniture were already there, we added our personal touch for the event. The theme was The New Year and Holiday Season celebration so we have decorated the room according to the concept.
There was a specific instruction not to touch wall colors or panels, we only can change and move the products according to necessity. So, we were focused on products mostly and placement of the products.
This is the lobby area of the studio with a powder room. A very simple and basic room full of dresses and equipment. Dresses can be rented from the company and lighting for photography as well.

The floor of the lobby was fully tiled but not mirror polished. During winter, they put carpet on the floor to keep the room warm.
And this was the studio where we organized our event. Two types of thematic photoshoots can be done in this one room. One part of the room is very monochromatic, living room style of a residence with fireplace and another part of the room is private, bedroom style. There was enough lighting in the studio but they have also provided artificial lighting for dark and night shoots. During photography, lighting is very important and I have learned about it while working on this event.
It's also important to choose the color and proper color combination. We didn't want to much besides we were focused on our theme. We wanted to create a very cozily, festive, warm, and home-style indoor environment.
At first, we have chosen a lot of Christmas decor and lighting to decorate the entire room. The main color theme was green and brown and we had chosen other colors according to the theme.

The entire floor of the room was wooden, very light color wood had been chosen for flooring. For the living room theme, we kept it very simple. We wanted to highlight the fireplace area so we just put shelves on both sides of the fireplace and decorated each shelf ourselves. The wall color was dark brown so we kept our decoration that way. We put a decorated Christmas tree with a fine carpet to create nice cozy Xmas vibes.

We had to focus on small details and colors mostly rather than paneling and flooring. We worked on small details of the products and placement of the furniture to create an actual living room. Books, newspapers, and other products we had to collect and had to create an atmosphere so that it looks like an actual living room.

In these photos, you will see how much detailed work we have done just for the living room. We also managed custom-made side tables and chairs for the photo shoot. We almost decorated every corner of the room and collected a lot of pieces for the interior.
The bedroom part was colorful, vibrant with the bold green paneled backrest. It was more like a vintage bedroom-style interior so we didn't do much here as it was already decorated. We have created a holiday-style vintage bedroom with a Christmas tree and decorations. We kept everything simple as well as attractive for the photoshoots. We created a different zone for conceptual photography.
In the end, it was all about a home-style new year celebration theme event.

Working with existing materials is sometimes hard because you can't change or remove anything. You have to work with the existing theme, so that was the challenge of doing this project. Also, another difficulty I have faced was incorporating existing materials with our own concept. The initial stage was a little bit difficult but within 3 days, we have finished decorating the whole room with 2 themes.

I remember when I was a student of architecture, 2nd year, I have done the PhotoStudio interior project. It was an academic project and I have never done such projects professionally so this was the first project which I have done with a cooperative team.
Maybe it's a small indoor event project but I have learned so much from this project. This is just the beginning I guess...
That's all for today, folks...
Until next time... Have a nice day everyone...
