REMODELING OF A BASEMENT | ARTIST RESIDENCY PROJECT [ENG/ESP]

A couple of weeks ago I have been supporting a project in the "la pastora" parish, one of the first parishes in the city of Caracas 😁 Julio loaiza a professor from the unearte that I met when I started university asked me for help to fit out a basement in an artistic residency that he is creating in the place where he lives there in La Pastora, this artistic residency is part of a project called macolla creativa with which various artists are allowed to come and do exhibitions or artistic workshops and stay in this residence, the project covers many more things but there I leave the link so that you can find out a little more if you are interested; I went to inspect the place and he asked me what he had planned to do and I agreed to collaborate with that project 💪🏼 a few days later we got down to work 😌.

Desde Hace un par de semanas atrás estoy apoyando en un proyecto en la parroquia "la pastora" una de las primeras parroquias de la ciudad de Caracas 😁 Julio loaiza un profesor de la unearte que conocí al iniciar la universidad me pidió ayuda para acondicionar un sotano en una residencia artística que él está creando en el lugar donde vive allí en la pastora, esa residencia artística es parte de un proyecto llamado macolla creativa con el que les permiten a varios artistas venir y hacer exposiciones o talleres artísticos y quedarse en esta residencia, el proyecto abarca mucha mas cosas peri allí les deje el link para que se informen un poco mas si estan interesados; yo fuí a inspeccionar el lugar y él me planteo lo que tenía pensado hacer y yo acepté colaborar con ese proyecto 💪🏼 a los pocos días nos pusimos manos a la obra 😌.

Friend Moisés also joined the team and there was also another sculpture teacher who also collaborated, since the work required effort and Professor Julio wanted to have the space ready before August, since he had to make a trip for work a couple of months and wanted to advance as much as possible; The work that had to be done in the basement was to restore the walls, since it had been leaking for many years, apparently on the upper floor they repaired the causes of the leaks and that is why we could restore the walls without fear that they would leak again. damage by seepage.

El amigo Moisés también se nos unió al equipo y aparte había otro profesor de escultura que también colaboró, ya que el trabajo requería de esfuerzo y el profesor Julio quería tener listo el espacio antes de agosto, ya que tenía que hacer un viaje por trabajo de un par de meses y quería adelantar lo mas posible; el trabajo que había que hacer en el sótano era de restaurar las paredes, ya que tenía muchísimo años con filtraciones, al parecer en el piso de arriba repararon las causas de las filtraciones y por eso podíamos restaurar las paredes si miedo a que se vuelvan a dañar por filtración.

We had to go through all the walls and in the process the walls were being torn apart, some of them we had to fill with stones, because they had huge holes.

Tuvimos que raspar todas las paredes y en ese proceso se iban despedazando las paredes, algunas las tuvimos que rellenar con piedras, porque tenían unos huecos inmensos.

Then we began to put the cement plaster on the walls to make them smooth, we really worked very hard to carry out a large part of the work and thus take advantage while Professor Julio was still here in the city of Caracas.

Luego comenzamos a colocar el frezo de cemento en las paredes para dejarlas lisas, de verdad nos esforzamos muchísimo para adelantar gran parte del trabajo y así aprovechar mientras el profesor Julio todavía estaba aquí en la ciudad de caracas.

Moisés had never worked in construction before in his 20 years of life and he was very grateful for all the practical knowledge he was learning from me, he let me know on several occasions 💪🏼😌. There were times when he would fall asleep anywhere because of how tired he was 😅.

Moisés jamas en sus 20 años de vida había trabajado antes de construcción y el estaba muy agradecido por todo ese conocimiento práctico que estaba aprendiendo de mí, me lo dejo saber en varias ocasiones 💪🏼😌. Había momentos en los que se quedaba dormido en cualquier lugar por lo cansado que estaba 😅.

Professor Daniel, despite never having worked in construction, performed much better since he is a professor of sculpture and in his artistic career he has experimented with many materials to create sculptures. They were both very grateful and went out of their way to be of help in the work we were doing.

El profesor Daniel apesar de nunca haber trabajado de construcción se desenvolvió mucho mejor ya que es profesor de escultura y en su trayectoria artística ha experimentado con muchos materiales para crear esculturas. Los dos estuvieron muy agradecidos y se esforzaron muchísimo para se de ayuda en el trabajo que estábamos realizando.

For lunch we went up to a pleasant terrace that allowed us to get a beautiful view of many fascinating landscapes, both natural and urban; we drank a good dose of fresh air, since inside the basement there are very few air intakes and the heat is brutal 🥵.

Para almorzar subíamos a una agradable terraza que nos permitía obtener una hermosa vista de muchos paisajes fascinantes tanto naturales, como urbanos; tomábamos una buena dosis de aire puro, ya que dentro del sotano son muy escasas las entradas de aire y el calor es brutal 🥵.

Then we went down to continue with our work, we finished covering the three most affected walls, that was the priority, and we also restored various parts of the staircase. There is another room over there but it is full of a lot of paraphernalia we have to do a big cleaning, for now we wanted to activate this room first.

Luego bajamos a continuar con nuestra labor, terminamos de cubrir las tres paredes mas afectadas esa era la prioridad y también restauramos varias partes de la escalera. Hay otra habitación ma allá pero esta llena de mucha parafernalia tenemos que realizar una gran limpieza, por ahora queríamos activar primero esta sala.

I spent several days doing some final semester deliveries at the university and that is why I could not go to the pastor for those days, but Professor Julio and Daniel made a lot of progress, they painted and cleaned and tidied up the other room, we could see more clearly that you have to restore the walls, you also notice that there is a small bathroom that we plan to reactivate and repair the floors, but we will do all that when Professor Julio returns from his trip in a couple of months, for now we have to rest from these great weeks of work 💪🏼😁. Estuve varios días haciendo algunas entregas finales de semestre en la universidad y por eso no pude ir para la pastora por esos días, pero el profesor Julio y Daniel adelantaron muchísimo ellos, pintaron y limpiaron y ordenaron la otra habitación, ya podíamos ver con mayor claridad que hay que restaurar en las paredes, también vilos que hay un pequeño baño que tenemos pensado reactivar y reparar los pisos, pero ya todo eso lo haremos cuando el profesor Julio regrese de su viaje en un par de meses, por ahora hay que descansar de estas grandiosas semanas de trabajo 💪🏼😁.
