This trip took me to a mosque that is the pride of the people of Medan. I feel happy to be able to witness the progress of the large mosque which will become the religious center of the Medan city community.
The Great Mosque of Medan looks like it is still under construction. However, this mosque was inaugurated by the governor of the city of Medan himself in September 2023.
It has been officially opened so that this mosque can be used for worship. There are many people who also go to this mosque specifically for religious tourism. Also for me who has seen various information on social media about how magnificent this Great Mosque of Medan is.
Sun Plaza mall building.
The Great Mosque of Medan is right next to the Medan city governor's building. Also, on the other side is the Sun Plaza mall building. So at this location we can make many trips at once.
Actually, the current Great Mosque of Medan is a renovation of an old mosque building. Wider and taller.
This is the old mosque building, of course smaller. In the future, this old mosque building will be used as a place for religious meetings.
From a distance we can see the height and majesty of The Great Mosque of Medan. The tower of this mosque is estimated to be up to 125 meters high. This is based on an Indonesian news source read through merdekacom. It is also stated that The Great Mosque Of Medan will have the first tallest tower in Medan city, a skyscraper.
From the outside, this mosque building does not have any color. Still the natural color of concrete and natural stone. Meanwhile, the domes of the mosque have golden colors which become the center of attention of anyone who passes this building.
From the side, the beauty of this mosque is clearly visible. However, it cannot be seen from the front side because it is still covered by the project's zinc barrier.
The terrace of the mosque will later have stairs leading to the center of the mosque. Currently, only large pillars are visible. That's why we can't enter the mosque from the front.
I entered from the side. On the side walls of the mosque there are interesting carvings which are still natural white.
Meanwhile there are firm golden lines like the bones of beautiful leaves. This is also in accordance with our religious teachings that wall reliefs must have plant motifs, not animals.
After that, visitors from the side will be taken to the escalator. From the start of this escalator we will begin to see the beauty of the mosque building.
Along the escalator, we will be tempted to look at the ceiling of the mosque which is full of lights and beautiful carvings. Please pay attention to your steps because I almost fell and didn't realize that my feet were on the escalator because my eyes were busy looking at the top of the mosque.
The carvings on the pathway ceiling are dominated by blue and gold. This pattern is adapted to the ceilings of all the different areas in this mosque, especially in the main area of the mosque.
Arriving at the end of the escalator, we will enter the center of the mosque. We are required to put our footwear in the storage area provided.
Then before entering the main area of the mosque, I enjoyed the beauty of the mosque building with its good composition. At the top of the large pillars are combined with lamps and gold carvings.
The blue and gold patterned reliefs are not only on the ceiling of the mosque. This is also in the glass room dividers. Make the room more beautiful.
In the middle of the main area there is a sunken room which is usually used by the mosque imam to lead worship or deliver lectures.
It's really beautiful with the same motifs as other areas. Blue and white.
Looking up, also with the same motif. When we look up it is also a symbol that we respect God and are grateful for all of God's beautiful creations.
The right and left of the main area of the mosque have many arches typical of the shape of mosques in general. The upper floor will be able to be used later when the mosque is fully operational.
I can't wait to see what it will look like when The Great Mosque Of Medan is completely finished. I'm curious what the colors of the walls and pillars of this mosque will be like. I'll give you an update too.
See you later, I am Sobat Kelana.
