Splinterland's Restructuring: Good, Bad, and ugly from my viewpoint.
Splinterland is going for the restructuring as they mentioned in their announcement post and if you go deep in the post, it is not just about restructuring to downsize the team for cutting expenses but also reflect the vision of the team for the future growth of the team and overall it looks very positive but still it has many sides from my viewpoint that I really appreciate and other few point that I again feel that team should reconsider for the current time being and rethink on its decision with going forward with the plan.
Good
I find it good that Splinterlands realized its mistake, that it was focussed on short-term revenue goals and failed to focus on long-term goals.
Over the past year or so, the company has been prioritizing short-term revenue over long term sustainability with the hopes of buying time until the market recovers and avoiding difficult decisions like the cuts being announced today. I want to assure the community that this will not be the case going forward.
Splinterlands actually kicked in the General sale of CHAOS LEGION in Jan 2022, with the higher price of packs and with a large supply of cards, and in the same year, they kept adding products like SPS Validator Node License, Riftwatchers, Soul Keep, and Genesis Goal league and not to add other promo stuff Like Waka Spiritblade and Runi and may be furthermore in list.
This actually drained much from the player base to give the team cash but in return, players get diminished earnings, more complexity, and a shift of the game towards "Invest to earn" with no new aesthetics and functionality added in-game, and whatever left is ruined by Bots and Battle helper.
All the product that were announced in 2022 were still unfinished and Land that was announced much earlier still need to be finished.
If the team understands that need to focus long-term and finish all the unfinished product then nothing is more welcome than this.
I also find Splitting Genesis goal league is also good so that each team focuses on their product.
Bad
Splitting the Splinterlands and Invennium Corp is a good decision but it is a little too early. Companies do spin off their units in separate companies but only when that division itself becomes too big and mature and establishes itself in the market. Separating "Invennium Corp" at this junction can be a big blow to the new entity as it is immature and I do not think they have any finished market product as of now, nor I am sure how much this team is capable and experienced to move forward in this bear market.
Ugly
With all the promises of delivering better products, and finishing the unfinished product on priority, we still see the plan to create the "rebellion" cards set. No idea why it is needed at this junction when the market is already flooded with CHAOS packs that are trading at very low.
I do not oppose rebellion but I want the team to give some exact dates when the unfinished product will be finished before announcing "Rebellion" and its launch should be strictly tied to the finishing of the unfinished products.
My 2 cents
Splinterlands has now established itself in the market with experience and existence of more than 5 years and it can definitely excel and provide a good gaming experience to its player base. The team needs to devote some time to finish all unfinished products and incorporate feedback before announcing a new set and mechanics in an existing game.
The gaming industry has a lot of potential to tap and to tap it, game need to be entertaining at first and they should focus on "entertaining" aspects before the Splinterland team think of their "earnings" or "player earnings"
