in search of the sublime it is easy to overlook the simple everyday occurrences that surround us. in this post i will show a simple reflection of the evening sun on a slotted brass spoon. this is a typical kitchen utensil which we bought at a flea market in norway. in our indian kitchen where the photo is taken, it is used when making deep fried foods such as pakoda, puri, shev and most anything deep fried. this photo is taken looking out the window by the kitchen basin. you may recognize the young coconut tree outside.
the teakwood window has a diagonal black steel bar grill. a couple of washcloths are hanging to dry on the grill. a bottle of dishwashing liquid stands next to the round steel holder for washed tableware etc. there is some extremely sticky flypaper we hang in march and april when the flies get too bothersome. clearly this is an unadulterated everyday scene that we have made no attempt to beautify. had it not been for the setting sun happening to strike the brass spoon there would be little reason to take these photos and even less for posting them here in this contest for all to see.
zooming in you can see the slotted spoon more clearly together with some forks and spoons. still not much to enter in a superb reflections contest in competition with some great photographers all around the world. but with a little contemplation of how to capture the essence of the moment there may yet be some potential here
this photo is my entry to the contest. i have done some minor editing on the free version of photoshop.
