Un rey engrandecido
El rey Belsasar tenía un gran banquete para sus príncipes, mujeres y concubinas, y celebraba con gusto a todo dar, tanto que mandaron a que trajeran vasos de oro y plata, que su padre había traído de una tierra sagrada, y sin respetar su valor porque él era el rey, los usó y dió de beber vino a todos en su gran banquete. Los vasos eran del templo de Dios en Jerusalén y aún sabiendo esto no le importó, así que, bebieron y alabaron a dioses de oro, plata, bronce, hierro, madera y piedra.
En esa misma noche, aparecieron los dedos de una mano de hombre que escribió en la pared del palacio real, mientras el rey lo veía que escribía, palideció, sus pensamientos lo tumbaron y se debilitaron sus lomos, juntándose sus rodillas. El rey asustado mandó a llamar a magos, caldeos y adivinos para que descifren lo que decía en la pared, a cambio de vestimenta, un collar de oro y que sería el tercer señor en el reino.
Llegaron al palacio sabios, pero ninguno pudo leer lo que estaba escrito en aquella pared, lo que hizo que el rey se asombrara aún más, que hasta sus príncipes estaban perplejos.
Luego entra la reina a la sala del banquete en el palacio, al ver al rey y los príncipes asustados les dice:
El rey vive para siempre, que no te turben tus pensamientos ni palidezca tu rostro.
Y continuó diciendo:
En tu reino hay un hombre el cual en él Mora el espíritu de los dioses santos, cuando tu padre necesitó, en él se halló la luz, la inteligencia y la sabiduría, otorgándole tu padre el título de jefe sobre todos los magos, astrólogos, caldeos y adivinos. Él puede interpretar y descifrar cualquier enigma y dudas.
El rey Belsasar dice su nombre, Daniel, y pidió llamarlo y traerlo, lo cual se cumplió inmediatamente. Y una vez el rey tiene a Daniel al frente, le dice:
He oído de ti, el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti y que en ti se halló luz, entendimiento y la mayor de la sabiduría. He traído sabios astrólogos para que interprete la escritura en la pared pero ninguno lo ha logrado, por eso te he buscado y traído, ya que tú puedes interpretar y resolver dificultades. Y ahora Daniel, ¿Puedes leer y darme la interpretación de la escritura?.
Y respondió Daniel:
El altísimo Dios dio a tu padre el reino la grandeza la gloria y la magnitud, y por esta grandeza la usó para humillar y ser temido por pueblos naciones y lenguas, a quien quería mataba y a quién quería daba vida, más cuando su corazón se ensordeció y su espíritu se endureció en su orgullo, fue sacado del puesto en el trono de su reino y despojado de su gloria, fue echado de entre los hijos de los hombres y su mente fue como de las bestias, colocándose con los asnos monteses, le hicieron comer hierba como güey y su cuerpo fue mojado con el rocío del cielo, hasta que reconoció al altísimo Dios, y él es el único que tiene dominio sobre el reino de los hombres, y tú su hijo sabiendo todo eso no has humillado tu corazón. Tu rey, te has ido contra el señor del cielo te has ensordecido y traes los vasos de su casa para beber vino con los príncipes, mujeres y concubinas, alabando a dioses de plata, oro, bronce, hierro, madera y piedra, que no ven, no oyen ni saben, y al Dios en cuya mano está tu vida y cuyos son todos tus caminos, nunca honraste, entonces de él fue enviada la mano que trazó esta escritura:
MENE MENE TEKEL UPARSIN
Cuya interpretación es la siguiente:
MENE: contó Dios tu reino y le ha puesto fin.
TEKEL: pesado ha sido en balanza y fuiste hallado falso.
PERE: tu reino ha sido roto y dado a los medos y los persas.
Entonces mandó el rey Belsasar a entregar lo prometido a Daniel proclamándolo tercer señor del reino.
Esa misma noche fue muerto Belsasar rey de los caldeos tomando el reino Darío de Media a los 62 años.
ENGLISH
King Belsasar had a great banquet for his princes, wives and concubines, and he celebrated with gusto to the full, so much so that they sent for gold and silver vessels, which his father had brought from a holy land, and without respecting their value because he was the king, he used them and gave wine to drink to all at his great banquet. The vessels were from the temple of God in Jerusalem and even knowing this he did not care, so, they drank and praised gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.
On that same night, the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote on the wall of the royal palace, while the king saw him writing, he became pale, his thoughts knocked him down and his loins weakened, and his knees came together. The frightened king sent for magicians, Chaldeans and soothsayers to decipher what it said on the wall, in exchange for clothing, a gold necklace and that he would be the third lord in the kingdom.
Wise men came to the palace, but none of them could read what was written on that wall, which made the king even more astonished, and even his princes were perplexed.
Then the queen enters the banquet hall in the palace, seeing the king and the princes frightened she says to them:
The king lives forever, let not your thoughts be troubled, nor your face grow pale.
And he went on to say:
In your kingdom there is a man who in him Dwells the spirit of the holy gods, when your father needed, in him was found light, intelligence and wisdom, your father granting him the title of chief over all magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers. He can interpret and decipher any riddle and doubts.
King Belsasar calls his name, "Daniel", and asked to call him and bring him, which was immediately fulfilled. Once the king has Daniel in front of him, he says to him:
I have heard of you, the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that in you was found light, understanding and the greatest of wisdom. I have brought wise astrologers to interpret the writing on the wall but none have succeeded, so I have sought you out and brought you, for you interpret and solve difficulties. And now Daniel, can you read and give me the interpretation of the writing?.
And Daniel answered:
The most high God gave your father the kingdom, greatness, glory and magnitude, and by this greatness he used it to humble and to be feared by peoples, nations and tongues, whom he wanted he killed and whom he wanted he gave life, but when his heart was deafened and his spirit was hardened in his pride, he was taken from his place on the throne of his kingdom and stripped of his glory, He was cast out from among the sons of men and his mind was like that of the beasts, being placed with the wild asses, they made him eat grass like a goat and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged the most high God, and he alone has dominion over the kingdom of men, and you his son knowing all this have not humbled your heart. Your king, you have gone against the lord of heaven you have deafened yourself and bring the vessels of his house to drink wine with princes, wives and concubines, praising gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone, who neither see, nor hear, nor know, and the God in whose hand is your life and whose are all your ways, you never honored, then from him was sent the hand that traced this writing:
MENE MENE TEKEL UPARSIN
Whose interpretation is as follows:
MENE: God counted your kingdom and has put an end to it.
TEKEL: It has been weighed in the scales and you were found to be false.
PERE: Your kingdom has been broken and given to the Medes and Persians.
Then king Belsasar sent to deliver what was promised to Daniel, proclaiming him third lord of the kingdom.
That same night Belsasar king of the Chaldeans was killed, taking the kingdom Darío of Media at the age of 62 years.
