Hello Hive Book Club community, this is my entry for Hive Book Club Hive Book Club Community Contest #3. When I started reading self-help books, I wanted to find tips for effective public speaking, so I started looking for information that would allow me to improve my speaking skills. The question I chose for this participation is:
How has a self-help book impacted you positively?
Pues bien, para responder a esta pregunta he elegido un libro de Dale Carnegie que se titula “El camino fácil y rápido para hablar eficazmente”. Dale Carnegie puede ser más conocido por su bestseller de “Cómo ganar amigos e influir sobre las personas”.
El camino fácil y rápido para hablar eficazmente está conformado por cinco partes, cada una muestra una serie de consejos dependiendo de la parte del discurso que quieras mejorar. Por ejemplo, tu desarrollo de confianza, si quieres identificar entre los tipos de discursos o cómo hacer un discurso improvisado.
To answer this question, I have chosen a book by Dale Carnegie entitled "The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking." Dale Carnegie may be best known for his bestseller "How to Win Friends and Influence People."
The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking comprises five parts, each showing a series of tips depending on the part of speech you want to improve. For example, if you wish to identify between types of speeches or how to make an impromptu speech, or your confidence building.
Uno de los mensajes que más me impacto de las enseñanzas de este libro fue aproveche toda oportunidad para practicar. Es la forma más rápida y eficaz, puede que sea cierto que existan personas que tengan inteligencia interpersonal y a ellas les sea más fácil dar un discurso o adaptarse al público, pero es la práctica la que nos hace buenos en algo.
Una buena estrategia para mejorar las habilidades para hablar en público debería ser buscar o formar un club de oratoria o también utilizar tu trabajo como medio de práctica, por ejemplo, si tienes personas a tu cargo, darles instrucciones de forma clara y sencilla.
One of the messages that most impacted me from the teachings of this book was to take every opportunity to practice. It is the fastest and most effective way; it may be true that there are people who have interpersonal intelligence, and it is easier for them to give a speech or adapt to an audience, but it is a practice that makes us good at something.
An excellent strategy to improve your public speaking skills should be to find or form a public speaking club or use your job as a means of practice; for example, if you have people under your charge, give them instructions clearly and straightforwardly.
Otro consejo que me impactó y que he tratado de poner en práctica en mi experiencia es no tratar de imitar a otros, ser yo misma. Esto no quiere decir que no podamos tener alguien a quien admiremos por su oratoria, quiere decir que no debemos ser la copia. Hay que desarrollar un estilo propio.
Creo que la parte más complicada de hablar en público es pensar en cómo empezar, en ese caso el autor nos recomienda hablar de nosotros mismos, por ejemplo, sobre nuestra primera etapa de vida y de como nos educaron, sobre las cosas que nos aficionan y nos entretienen o sobre áreas de nuestro conocimiento. Esto permitirá soltarnos al momento de hablar y establecer una mejor conexión con nuestro auditorio. También es importante como oradores hacer sentir a nuestro público que lo les vamos a decir es importante para ellos, por eso debemos dominar al 100 % el tema del cual vamos a hablar.
Another piece of advice that struck me and that I have tried to put into practice in my experience is not to try to imitate others, to be myself. Imitate others does not mean that we cannot have someone we admire for their oratory; we should not be the copy. You have to develop your style.
The most complicated part of public speaking is thinking about how to start; in that case, the author recommends we talk about ourselves. For example, about our childhood, hobbies, or areas of our knowledge. These examples will allow us to loosen up when speaking and establish a better connection with our audience. It is also essential as speakers to make our audience feel that what we will tell them is important to them; that is why we must master 100% the topic we will talk about.
Por último, siempre tengo presente dentro de las enseñanzas de este autor que no hay que dejar de persistir, aprender a hablar en público es como aprender a hablar un idioma nuevo, es decir se hace de forma escalonada y hay momentos en los cuales vamos a sentir que no tenemos un avance, que esto no nos perturbe, solo hay que seguir practicando y veremos como nos haremos buenos en ello.
Este libro lo leí hace un año y desde entonces he seguido sus consejos, considero que hoy hablo mejor en público, no tengo miedo de equivocarme y si lo hago pienso que la siguiente oratoria será mejor. Además de ello, antes de hablar en público utilizo otras técnicas de relajación como la respiración y pensar en cosas de color azul. De verdad que este libro me ha parecido muy completo porque las técnicas que propone son muy eficientes, además de que ha impactado de una manera positiva en mí. Espero tengas la oportunidad de leerlo si lo que buscas es mejorar una tu oratoria.
Finally, I always keep in mind within the teachings of this author that we must not stop persisting. Learning to speak in public is like learning to speak a new language. That is to say, it is done in stages, and there are times when we will feel that we do not have an advance, that this does not disturb us, we have to keep practicing, and we will see how we will become good at it.
I read this book a year ago, and since then, I have followed its advice; today, I consider that I speak better in public, I am not afraid to make mistakes, and if I do, I think that the next oratory will be better. In addition to that, before speaking in public, I use other relaxation techniques such as breathing and thinking about blue things. I found this book to be complete because the methods it proposes are very efficient, and it has had a positive impact on me.
