When @esther-emmanuel tagged me to participate, I knew I had to honor that invitation. But picking a favorite fictional character was somewhat difficult for me, after thinking for a while, I decided I'd just pick my favorite character from a book I read recently. The title of the book is Burn
Burn's story centers around Janeal Mikkado a gypsy woman who feels like an outsider among her own people, she dreams of leaving it all and being a free spirit, but can't bring herself to do it.
She comes in contact with Salazar Sanzo, a very powerful drug kingpin who kidnaps her and threatens to kill her father unless she can recover his stolen money from him.
Things get out of hand and Salazar Sanzo and his men attack and burn her village. At that moment Janeal is faced with a difficult decision: help her best friend Katie and probably not make it or save herself.
The impact of her decision changes something about her. From that night she becomes a new being.
Fifteen years later, Janeal is a new woman, strong, powerful, successful, and completely different from who she was before. But somehow her past finds her.
My Favorite Character
Of course my favorite Character is Janeal Mikkado. Before the burn incident I found her character quite obnoxious and annoying, childish even. But the burn there was a new found maturity. It was like she became a new creature. She became Intelligent, bold, calculative, ambitious, and even a bit arrogant. She harnessed her new found traits and became a new person, both figuratively and literally.
She moved to the big city of New York and worked her way up from a pastry chef to becoming editor in chief of what became the one the biggest and most successful publishers with her influence.
What I Would Do If I met Her
The reason Janeal is my favorite character isn't really because I admire her, but because I am intrigued by her thought process. Some would say I admire her mind.
I would probably like to go on a dinner date with her. Discuss life, her ideologies, find out what makes her tick, find out how she feels about Sanzo, what she felt during the burn that changed her life. Was she truly happy with the new life she'd built for herself?
These are questions I asked myself while reading and I wish I could meet her so she could satisfy my curiosity.
I am positive I would learn a lot of things from her.
THANKS FOR READING
This is my entry to the Hive Book Club Community Contest #10. I invite @justfavour and @queenstarr to participate in this contest. It's probably going to be too late to qualify for the prizes, but you could still do it anyway :)
