Hello Hello people of #HiveBookClub How are you? today I want to review a book that my sister and my dad recommended me, which is a novel based on the times of the second world war, and that despite having fictional main characters also has real characters and is based on a real context of what was the war and what led to that war, so without further ado let's start 😉
Hola Hola gente de #HiveBookClub ¿Cómo están? hoy quiero reseñar un libro que me recomendaron mi hermana y mi papá, el cual es una novela basada en los tiempos de la segunda guerra mundial, y que a pesar de tener personajes principales ficticios también tiene personajes reales y está basada en un contexto real de lo que fue la guerra y lo que condujo a esa guerra, así que sin más preámbulo iniciemos 😉
Ken Follett (the author) tells us the story from different perspectives through very diverse characters because they all belong to different families that are in different countries with very different contexts and thoughts, which gives us a much broader picture than any story of this style, because here we can see why the Nazis thought as they thought, how they built their empire, what were the opinions of the Germans, what were the consequences of the decisions taken by the government and how was the reaction of other countries. But I must highlight the fact that I loved the fact that the author has structured the book in such a way that at the beginning there is a list with the names and surnames of the families that we will find throughout the reading, which helps to avoid confusion.
Ken Follett (el autor) nos cuenta la historia desde distintas perspectivas a través de personajes muy variopintos pues todos ellos pertenecen a familias distintas que están en países diferentes con contextos y pensamientos muy diferentes, lo que nos ofrece un panorama mucho más amplio que cualquier historia de este estilo, pues aquí podemos ver porque los nazis pensaban como pensaban, como construyeron su imperio, cuales eran las opiniones de los alemanes, cuales fueron las consecuencias de las decisiones que tomaba el gobierno y como fue la reacción de los demás países. Pero debo resaltar el hecho de que amé que el autor haya estructurado el libro de tal manera que al inicio hay una lista con los nombres y apellidos de las familias que encontraremos a lo largo de la lectura, lo que ayuda a evitar confusiones.
As I told you, in this book we can find characters that were really part of what was the Second World War, people like President Roosevelt, Hitler, Churchill or Stalin. The author tries to immerse us in the minds of all of them to see why they made the decisions they did and how the events unfolded from their points of view. The story is so immersive at times that it is simply terrifying, as if you are watching horrible scenes without being able to do anything to change it. I did notice the author's contempt for the Soviets, especially at the end of the book, and, after studying extensively what was this stage of history, and although I could never put my hands in the fire for the Soviets, I have never liked to generalize and say that absolutely ALL acted in a horrible way after the capitulation of Germany, besides, we would also have to consider that the other part of the allied bloc, that is, the United States, United Kingdom and France also had their dark side.
Tal como les dije, en este libro podemos encontrar personajes que realmente formaron parte de lo que fue la segunda guerra mundial, personas como el presidente Roosevelt, Hitler, Churchill o Stalin. El autor intenta sumergirnos en la mente de todos ellos para ver porque tomaron las decisiones que tomaron y como se desarrollaron los acontecimientos desde sus puntos de vista. La historia resulta tan inmersiva en ocasiones que es simplemente aterrador, como si estuvieses contemplando escenas horribles sin poder hacer nada para cambiarlo. Eso sí, noté el desprecio del autor por los soviéticos, sobre todo al final del libro, y, después de estudiar ampliamente lo que fue esta etapa de la historia, y aunque nunca podría poner las manos en el fuego por los soviéticos, nunca me ha gustado generalizar y decir que absolutamente TODOS actuaron de una forma horrible tras la capitulación de Alemania, además, también tendríamos que considerar que la otra parte del bloque de aliados, es decir, Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y Francia también tuvo su parte oscura.
As I said the author shows us all possible scenarios, for example the coldness with which the world rulers handle the war while the soldiers and civilians pay the consequences of their disagreements, no matter if you were German, American, Russian, Spanish, Polish or Italian, anyway you had to face the scarcity of resources and in the worst cases, as it happened to the Europeans or Asians, they also had to face hunger, pain, fear, foreign occupation (with all its terrible consequences) and loss. But I also loved that the author recognized the work of women in the war, and how many of them made great contributions, not only in the area of medicine and science, but many times they were a great moral support, gave valuable advice that helped to change the course of things, or had open participations in terms of aid during the cruel bombardments, sometimes they were women considered as “privileged” because of their social position, but war has the particularity of equalizing everyone.
Como les dije el autor nos muestra todos los panoramas posibles, por ejemplo la frialdad con la que los gobernantes mundiales manejan la guerra mientras que los soldados y civiles pagan las consecuencias de sus desacuerdos, no importa si eras alemán, estadounidense, ruso, español, polaco o Italiano, de todos modos debías enfrentarte a la escases de recursos y en el peor de los casos, como les sucedió a los europeos o asiáticos, también tuvieron que enfrentarse al hambre, al dolor, al miedo, a la ocupación extranjera (con todas sus terribles consecuencias) y a la pérdida. Pero también amé que el autor reconociera el trabajo de las mujeres en la guerra, y como muchas de ellas hicieron grandes aportes, no solo en el área de la medicina y la ciencia, sino que muchas veces fueron un gran apoyo moral, brindaron valiosos consejos que ayudaron a cambiar el rumbo de las cosas, o tuvieron abiertas participaciones en materia de ayuda durante los crueles bombardeos, algunas veces eran mujeres consideradas como "privilegiadas" por su posición social, pero la guerra tiene la particularidad de igualar a todos.
