I did not do so much for myself in 2022 in terms of reading. At least, not as I had planned. I had set out to read 50 books and ended up reading a little above 20. I know...it's poor. But then, from the very few, below, I'll be sharing the ones that I found most interesting. There was really no worse or heat for me. Plus, I explored other genres. Let's get into it.

•AKATA WITCH BY NNEDI OKOROAFOR
By the title, this wasn't something I found easy to predict. Okoroafor tells the of Sunny a sixteen year-old girl who lives in Aba, Nigeria and was constantly called nasty names and abused because she's an albino. But being a very strong and smart kid, she never let their words get to her.
Soon, she makes friends with Chichi, Sasha and Orlu and together, they set out to destroy Black Hat Okotoko; a man responsible for kidnapping and killing children.
I am not magical nor fairytale-like books but this was a delightful read. The juju/magic plot was set in the real Nigerian style. I had my sentiments about this one but then, not today...
• IN 27 DAYS BY ALISON GERVALS
This book deals with triggering subjects as loneliness, suicide and depression but gladly, the author approached this read with an optimistic and a hopeful tone. There were also portrayals of friendship, family and love
Harley attends Archer Morales funeral service after she had heard that he committed suicide and felt there was something she could have done to stop him. At the service, she was approached by a man who calls himself 'Death' and he offers her a deal to go back in time, 27 days, to right the past and stop Archer from attempting suicide. She accepts this deal only to find out that the mission is way harder than she had thought of.
The build up throughout this read is commendable. It tells of friendship in a way whereof, a person takes risks for someone they're barely acquainted with. Crazy in my opinion. And unlikely too.
You might also be reminded from this book that a persons outward appearance may not be a perfect reflection of what they feel inside
•THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE BY ABI DARE
Imagine living in a world where you're constantly reminded that you're a nobody and would remain same. This was Adunni's story.

Book cover source
Abi Dare tells the story of a 14 year old girl, Adunni who badly wanted an education but instead was sold into marriage by her father after her mother dies. She runs away and inspite of the many misfortunes that she is met with, she is determined to stand up and speak up not for herself alone but for other girls; past, present and those to come. Now, the question is,as she speaks, albeit whispers in that her broken English and in song, will she be heard? How loud is her voice? The pages of this book held in them a rollercoaster of emotions; sadness, resolve, positivity, humour. You may like it.
•THE FAULT IN OUR STARS BY JOHN GREEN
I'm yet to figure out what exactly it is with me and Catharsis genres. John Green in this one tells the story of a young girl, who is down with cancer and is greatly depressed. She meets Augustus at her support group and they fall in love with each other. They know rat this thing between them may be short lived yet they try to makee fun of their woes. This was very heartbreaking and gripping atvthevsame time. Don't go hoping for too much and also, keep a handkerchief handy.
•THE SMART MONEY WOMAN BY ARESE UGWU
You haven't read this? Just why?
What a book! Beautiful. Engaging. Practical. Insighrful. You can already tell that this was a love for me. Arese Ugwu outdid herself on this one. Tells the story of Zuri and her laidback financial habits courtesy of her lifestyle. Also give insights into the lives of her friends.their finances, choices, lifestyle and family.
This was one book I put down so many times cause being a practical book which holds so much knowledge in every line, I needed to do some cross-examining on myself. And, going by this, I was convinced that I am on the right track as regards my finance. For every area that was mentioned, I was already on it. Felt good and quite fulfilling.Tsola's tips in guiding Zuri came very in very important.
The exercises at the end of each chapter were/are very helpful. I'm not sure this book could ever be stale to me. I plan on reading it once every year at least, as I consider it a good finance and habit examiner. A must read for everyone.
I cannot say I enjoyed reading every single book I picked up last year as I barely read a few books. But while that stands, I enjoyed these ones and may get
to read them sometime in the future.
Hello @emreal, did you read any books this year?
Thanks for gracing this post.
