Hello friends of this book club. I sincerely hope that everyone is in good spirits, in good health and that good vibes fill your home. Some time ago; months ago, I would say I finished reading my last book. I remember well the title "Del Amor y otros Demonios" (Of Love and other Demons). That was one of those readings in which you can't stop until you know how the story ends and, above all, the characters. Sad ending that one, and to top it off, it touched me closely, because days after having caressed and suffered the last page, a dog bites me in the leg, near the ankle. It seems false, but unfortunately it is not.
Since that last book, life and work have robbed me of all the attention and extra time I can spare. It has been months of diverse work activities, self-preparation, participation in events, and other complications. Thank God, none of them are serious, but they do end up becoming an impediment to follow the literary chain and not let the habit of reading die.
Things are falling into place and the days are getting quieter. The school year is coming to an end and well, the teacher has less pending things on her list. It is a good time to grab a good book, get away from real life for a few pages and get to know new stories, people and how they manage to solve their conflicts. It happens that when you have good copies, it is difficult to select the next work.
The decision is very difficult to make. There are two titles that have me very curious right now, and I'm not the type of reader who can read two at the same time, so I have to decide which one to read first and which one to read later.
The first is "The Great Gatsby" by American writer Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. The second is "Sounding the Blood" by Canadian writer Amanda Hale. The first one I already know, or at least I think I do. Long before I had the book I was able to enjoy the movie version and was more than delighted with it. I found the book this year, at the Havana Book Fair, as a copy of the Cuban publishing house Arte y Literatura, Biblioteca del Pueblo collection, in which they have edited works of universal classic literature and put them in the hands of the public.
The second one is "Sounding the Blood" by Amanda Hale, but I don't know at all. It came to me as a prize from the university's amateur artist festival. I recognize that it is a good story since, reading the back cover, I see that the plot is about the whaling stations of western Canada, in addition to touching on themes such as love, death, misunderstandings and frustrations. It also deals with other current issues such as xenophobia, exploitation of immigrants and whaling, so I understand that it also touches on issues such as the protection of these marine species and the struggle for the rights of these aquatic mammals to life.
It is still difficult to choose. Strong and beautiful stories at the same time. Each one with its content and depth that leave me hungry for knowledge and desire to enter those pages, to know their characters, their stories, conflicts, outcomes, romances and everything in general.
Weekly I will publish a review of the chapters read and how I am assimilating the story; maybe even what I would do in the place of the characters.

Hola amigas y amigos de este club de lectura. Espero sinceramente que todas y todos se encuentren en buen estado de ánimo, de salud y que las buenas vibras llenen su hogar. Hace un buen tiempo; meses, diría yo terminé de leer mi último libro. Recuerdo bien fue el título “Del Amor y otros Demonios”. Esa fue de esas lecturas en las que no te puedes detener hasta saber cómo termina la historia y, sobre todo, los personajes. Final triste ese, y para colmo, me tocó bien de cerca, porque días después de haber acariciado y sufrido la última página, pues me muerde un perro en la pierna, cerca del tobillo. Pareciera falso, pero por desgracia no lo es.
Desde ese último libro la vida y el trabajo me han robado toda la atención y el tiempo extra que pueda tener. Han sido meses de diversas actividades laborales, autopreparación, participación en eventos, y otras complicaciones. Gracias a Dios, ninguna de gravedad, pero sí se terminan volviendo impedimento para seguir la cadena literaria y no dejar morir el hábito de la lectura.
Ya las cosas van tomando su lugar y los días van siendo más tranquilos. El curso escolar está llegando a su final y pues, la profesora va teniendo menos pendientes en la lista. Es buen momento para agarrar un buen libro, alejarse de la vida real por unas páginas y conocer nuevas historias, personas y cómo se desenvuelven a la hora de solucionar sus conflictos. Sucede que cuando se tienen buenos ejemplares, es difícil seleccionar la siguiente obra.
La decisión es bien difícil de tomar. Hay dos títulos que ahora mismo me tienen bien curiosa, y tampoco soy del tipo de lectora que puede llevar dos a la vez, entonces debo decidir cuál leo primero y cuál leo después.
El primero es “El Gran Gatsby” del escritor norteamericano Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. El segundo es “Sondeando la Sangre” de la escritora canadiense Amanda Hale. El primero ya lo conozco, o al menos eso creo. Mucho antes de tener el libro pude disfrutar de la versión cinematográfica y quedé más que encantada con ella. Encontré el libro este año, en la Feria del Libro de La Habana, como un ejemplar de la editorial cubana Arte y Literatura, colección Biblioteca del Pueblo, en la cual han editado obras de la literatura clásica universal y las han puesto en las manos del público.
El segundo es "Sondeando la Sangre" de Amanda Hale, pero no lo conozco en lo absoluto. Llegó a mí como premio del festival de artistas aficionados de la universidad. Reconozco que es una buena historia ya que, al leer la contraportada, veo que la trama va de las estaciones balleneras del oeste de Canadá, además de tocar temas como el amor, la muerte, desencuentros y frustraciones. También da trato a otros temas vigentes hoy en día como son la xenofobia, la explotación de los inmigrantes y la explotación ballenera, por lo que entiendo que también toca temas como la protección de estas especies marinas y la lucha por los derechos de estos mamíferos acuáticos a la vida.
Sigue siendo difícil escoger. Historias fuertes y hermosas al mismo tiempo. Cada una con su contenido y su profundidad que me dejan ávida de conocimiento y de deseos por entrar a esas páginas, conocer a sus personajes, sus historias, los conflictos, los desenlaces, sus romances y todo en general.
Semanalmente publicaré una reseña de los capítulos leídos y de cómo voy asimilando la historia; tal vez hasta qué haría yo en el lugar de los personajes.
