Hi readers! I am glad to be here again, but this time sharing about the new book that I started to read today. Some posts ago I was here with the great desire to retake my reading habit, but with a hard decision of selecting between two books that I am really interested in. Finally after some recommendations I selected "Sounding the Blood" or "Sondeando la Sangre" in Spanish. It has a special meaning for me for the fact of being part of the prize of the afficionates festival. Do you remember that? And I do not know what the story is about, so it becomes more fun.
These days have been a little bit difficult. The electricity or in a more appropriate way; the blackouts, and the lack of water make things worst, even posting on Hive is a big deal, so the only way to scape is traveling for the different book pages.
Today was the appropriate day to start my reading. I had nothing to do because my work is almost closing the final period. I had no electricity as usual and it was raining.
Some days ago I made the bookmark that I am going to use this time, because I am used to create one each time that I am going to read in order to have a better experience.
Specifically about the book: I am into a story of frustration, blood, and death at the beginning.
The book starts with a description of all the characters and their stories. The first one; Yamamoto Kazuo, used to be a fisherman in Japan and used to live with his wife and his daughter. He came to Canada looking for richness trying luck and the work he found was in the whale's station: a place where whales were killed to get oil and some other products. He is involved in a murder, but his partners support him in the judge telling that it was in self defense so he went back to work been innocent. He sends money to his family, hoping that they may be together soon in Rose Harbour.
The next character that the author introduces is Norah Pike - Slaney. She is married with Leo Slaney, the administrator of the whale's station. She is not in love with him anymore. She is not happy with the life that she is living. The couple have three daughters; one that do not live with them (the elder) and two that live with them. She hates blood and fat's whale smell in all that place, it is disgusting for her. That is why she is used to go for a walk into the forest frequently. She miss her past life and she notice that she has changed. The point is that she is starting to pay attention to Yamamoto and a feeling of passion is borning.
In Yamamoto's description, he tells that a woman is looking at him (now I know that is Norah), and he tells that he can not understand that place. He is confused.
I am expectant for keeping reading the book to know the story of the rest of the characters and how their lifes will shape the novel itself. Thay have various points in common sharing the same place, the same work, the same views, the same air, love, hopes, dreams and much more. I just came the first steps in the story. It seems like a great book. I am going to be sharing with you the story after reading with my own interpretations. I hope that you all may be with me in this journey.
With love: Vicky ❤️
