It is summer and that means there is more time and juice to just take a chill pill and sink and just read away. I have been trying to do this a bit more instead of landing in a youtube and other social loop of endless content which is handed over to you on a platter.
A nice platter though I must admit, but for the brain it is good to shut down a bit more I have been noticing.
Reading is perfect for that, and I don't always give the attention as that it actually deserves. Because loosing yourself into a nice story, there is nothing better right?
Now initially I was reading in 'Health and Safety' by Emily Witt which is a fun story about New York city lifestyle with a lot of techno, polygamie and drugs in there. Sure the topics are easy to read about, but I couldn't find this book in Dutch, and although I have zero issued with reading in English....I just can't loose myself in the story, which for me is the whole reason of reading a book.
So I stopped half way (which I never do) and started on something easy to digest and fast pace. This one was perfect for that actually. A no brainer...easy to read, no thinking, easy to predict what will happen in the end and letting the mind drift off for bit.
Awesome for a rainy day in summer when you don't need anything!
Wild
So in Dutch this book is called 'When the Wolves cry' as a literal translation and this is actually a way more suitable name for the book if you ask me. But the rest of the world can find this story under the name 'Wild'.
Kirsten Hannah did a good job in just making a really relatable story about a psychiater called Julia and her sister Elly who live in a small village where on a random day a wild child walks in out of the woods with together with a wild wolf.
The child is unable to speak or to tell where she came from and Julia and Elly are trying to find this out together with the rest of the super helpful town.
Of course there is also some love involved and some mysterious men, but also a small bit about fighting the system around these kinds of situations.
Now the ending of the story ended up to be a very predictable anti climax and also around how the child ends up in her forever home sounded a bit like there weren't enough pages left over.
As in...some parts of the story are really slow and are really well explained, and all of a sudden there are all kinds of plot twists hidden in literally two pages of text.
Did that matter? Nehhh, not really. This is the type of story that you really need to pay attention to, it is just about digesting and indulging the story and that is really just nice. I guess this is a perfect one for on the beach as well.
Was it literature? Not at all. Did I enjoy the story, yup to the fullest. Go for it!
