Hello Hello Community! ✨, I always find it impressive to realise how some books have the capacity to move you so much as to leave you in reader's block, sometimes this can last a couple of weeks or months, and sometimes even years, which happened to me some time ago, and which was the reason why I spent more than 5 years without being able to get back into the habit of reading continuously. It happens that the last book I reviewed managed to make me spend a month and a half without being able to read another story, but fortunately I came across the book we will talk about today and with which I could get out of this brief block, so without further ado let's see what brings us this romantic comedy called It Happened One Summer.

**Piper Bellinger has grown up surrounded by the luxury that the city of Los Angeles provides her, with a millionaire film producer stepfather, Piper has only had to worry about taking a good selfie that allows her to add more followers on Instagram, however everything changes one night when a love breakup destabilizes her emotionally, in an impulse of wanting to get attention she ends up in jail. Her stepfather, tired of the lack of future he sees in his daughter, decides to send her to her father's native town, who died when Piper was only 5 years old and left her a small bar as an inheritance, which she will now have to take care of.

What for Piper was a horrible punishment will soon become the adventure that will turn her whole life around, not only will she learn more about her late father, but she will also find love in a sturdy local crab fisherman: Brendan Taggart, who will teach her that not only can she be the soul of the party but she can also be an independent and strong woman.

Tessa Bailey, the author of this book, is considered in tik tok as the queen of romantic comedies, I was the first time I read one of her stories and the truth I can say that I understand why they call her that way, she has in my opinion an excellent way of narrating and writing, This book at least has descriptions that are simply poetic and the way in which the main characters are constructed seems to me to be very well cared for, we understand perfectly where their insecurities and fears come from and it gives you a certain projection of what the conflicts to come were.

I'm not particularly good at cataloguing types of narration, but I think this book is narrated in 2nd person, even so if someone has read it and knows more about it please correct me if I'm wrong; in this sense what caught me the most of the book is that we have the version of both protagonists, and to me personally it has always seemed that this allows you to connect more with the characters, even with those who are secondary.

As we watch Piper navigate the town and its inhabitants, we get a glimpse of her true self, that sparkling one that is in theory ‘the life of the party’, because one thing that is clear throughout the story is that Piper is not the plastic and vain girl that she tries to sell on her social networks, but she is a naturally animated and outgoing girl who is the centre of attention in the cultured place she's come to, and that makes her a very human character, who doesn't reject that part of herself that is real as she discovers who else she can be.

Brendan on the other hand is described as a highly structured, rigorous and orderly guy, who is not capable of skipping his established routines because in his conception of a ship's captain, skipping those routines or order can be the key between life and death at sea, his personality has to be decisive, calm and highly detailed, because his work deserves it; however he also has an evolution in the story, largely influenced by Piper, who somehow shows him what lies beyond the known.

I must say that at the beginning of the book I didn't like Brendan, because his way of reacting to Piper's presence and therefore his treatment of her was extremely crude and rude, fortunately this was only for a chapter, maybe two, and from then on he changes, more than because he likes her, because he realises that these are not the values that his people represent, and for Brendan his people are everything, he in essence is his people.

Something I love about this couple is that they don't beat around the bush, once they accept for themselves that there is an attraction between them, they go straight to express what they feel, perhaps in this section it is Piper who hesitates a little more, because in her eagerness of not wanting something serious as a way to protect her heart, she resists a little in showing her feelings, however it is not something tedious as I have read in other stories, However, it is not something that is tedious as I have read in other stories, because here we understand perfectly where her resistance comes from, and that is why it is so important to build your protagonists well.

Now as for secondary characters, there are some that could be very important for the plot and they are simply left aside after a while, for example Piper's grandmother and Brendan's ex-father-in-law, they literally appear at the beginning and then they are sporadically named and that's it, I think it's a waste of characters. I also think that the conflict of the book is a bit weak, it's true that it's a very real conflict, but even so it all boils down to the fact that no one is able to wait two more hours, it's all quite rushed.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, siempre me resulta impresionante darme cuenta como algunos libros tienen la capacidad de movilizarte tanto como para dejarte en bloqueo lector, a veces éste puede durar un par de semanas o meses, y otras tantas incluso años lo que justamente me sucedio a mi hace un tiempo, y que fue la razón por la que pase mas de 5 años sin poder volver a retomar el hábito de leer de forma continua. Resulta y acontece que el último libro que reseñé logró hacer que pasara un mes y medio sin poder leer otra historia, pero afortunadamente me encontré con el libro del cual hablaremos hoy y con el que pude salir de este breve bloqueo, así que sin más que añadir veamos qué nos trae esta comedia romántica llamada Sucedió un Verano.

Piper Bellinger ha crecido rodeada del lujo que le proporciona la ciudad de Los Ángeles, con un padrastro productor de cine millonario, Piper de lo único que ha tenido que preocuparse es de sacar una buena selfie que le permita sumar más seguidores en Instagram, sin embargo todo cambia en una noche donde una ruptura amorosa de la desestabiliza un poco emocionalmente, en un impulso de querer llamar la atención acaba en la cárcel. Su padrastro cansado de la falta de futuro que vislumbra en su hija, decide enviarla al pueblo nativo de su padre, el cual falleció cuando Piper tenía tan solo 5 años que ha dejado un pequeño bar como herencia, del cual ahora ella deberá hacerse cargo.

Lo que para Piper era un castigo horrible, pronto se convertirá en la aventura que dará rumbo a toda su vida, no solo conocerá más acerca de su difunto padre, sino que también encontrará el amor en un robusto pescador de cangrejos de la zona: Brendan Taggart, quien le enseñara que no solo puede ser el alma de la fiesta sino que además puede ser una mujer independiente y fuerte.

Tessa Bailey, la autoría de este libro, es considerada en tik tok como la reina de las comedias románticas, yo era la primera vez que leía una de sus historias y la verdad puedo decir que entiendo porque la llaman así, tiene a mi parecer una excelente forma de narrar y escribir, este libro al menos cuenta con descripciones que son simplemente poéticas y la forma en que se construyen a sus protagonistas me parece muy bien cuidada, entendemos a la perfección de donde vienen sus inseguridades, sus miedos y te da cierta proyección de cuáles serán los conflictos por venir.

Yo no soy especialmente buena en catalogar tipos de narración, pero creo que este libro está narrado en 2da persona, aun asi si alguien lo ha leído y sabe más del tema por favor digame si estoy equivocada; en este sentido lo que más me atrapó del libro es que contamos con la versión de ambos protagonistas, y a mí personalmente siempre me ha parecido que eso te permite conectar más con los personajes, incluso con aquellos que son secundarios.

En primera instancia se nos presenta a Piper como una niña (a pesar de tener 28 años) rica y mimada, pero más allá de eso, se presenta como una mujer sin aspiraciones ni proyección de futuro más allá de solo pensar en verse bonita para ganar mas seguidores en instagram, de hecho una vez que ella ya está en el pueblo, lo primero que vemos que se desarrollar en ella es esa sensación de paz y disfrute del momento, es decir esa desconexión del mundo virtual que es vacío y emocionalmente alejado de quien es ella en verdad, lo cual a mi me parece una clara crítica a la imagen virtual de “perfección” que tanto quiere vender últimamente Instagram.

Conforme vemos a Piper desenvolverse en el pueblo y con sus habitantes es que vislumbramos su verdadero ser, ese con chispa que es en teoría “el alma de la fiesta”, porque algo que queda claro en toda la historia es que Piper no es la chica plastica y vanidosa que intenta vender en sus redes sociales, pero sí es una chica naturalmente animada y extrovertida que es el centro de atención de culturizar lugar al que llegué, y eso la convierte en un personaje muy humano, que no rechaza esa parte de sí misma que es real mientras descubre quién más puede ser.

Brendan por otro lado se nos describe como un chico sumamente estructurado, riguroso y ordenado, que no es capaz de saltarse sus rutinas ya establecidas porque dentro de su concepción de capitán de un barco, saltarse esas rutinas o el orden puede ser la clave entre la vida y la muerte en alta mar, su personalidad tiene que ser resolutiva, calmada y altamente detallista, porque su trabajo así lo amerita; no obstante él también tiene una evolución en la historia, en gran parte influenciada por Piper, quien de alguna manera le muestra lo que hay más allá de lo conocido.

Debo decir que al inicio del libro Brendan me caí un poquito mal, pues su forma de reaccionar ante la presencia de Piper y por ende su trato hacia ella, era sumamente tosco y grosero, afortunadamente esto solo fue por un capítulo quizás dos y a partir de allí cambia, más que por el hecho de gustarle, porque se da cuenta que esos no son los valores que representa su pueblo, y para Brendan su pueblo lo es todo, él en esencia es su pueblo.

Algo que me encanta de ésta pareja es que no se andan con rodeos, una vez que aceptan para sí mismos que hay una atracción entre ellos, van directamente a expresar lo que sienten, quizás en este apartado es Piper quien duda un poco más, pues en su afán de no querer que algo sea serio como forma de resguardar su corazón, se resiste un poco en dejar ver sus sentimientos, sin embargo no es algo que resulta tedioso como me ha tocado leer en otras historias, pues aquí entendemos a la perfección de donde viene su resistencia, y por eso la importancia de construir bien a tus protagonistas.

Ahora en cuanto a personajes secundarios, hay unos que podrían ser muy importantes para la trama y sencillamente son dejados de lado al cabo de un tiempo, por ejemplo la abuela de Piper y el ex suegro de Brendan, literalmente aparecen al inicio y luego son nombrados esporádicamente y listo, me parece que es un desperdicio de personajes. Igualmente me parece que el conflicto del libro es un poco flojo, si es verdad que es un conflicto muy real, pero aun así todo se resume en que nadie es capaz de esperar dos horas más, es todo bastante apresurado.
