Hi, book lovers! Today, I'm going to talk about Verity by Colleen Hoover. It's an intense psychological mystery/thriller with a dash of forbidden romance.
Screenshot of book cover.
It all started when Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, is offered a life-changing job. The job? To complete the best-selling book series of famous author Verity Crawford, who has been injured in an accident and is unable to finish the work herself.
Verity's husband, Jeremy, invites Lowen to stay at their home to use Verity’s notes and outlines in order to complete the novel. While there, Lowen discovers a very disturbing, unpublished autobiography written by Verity that reveals sinister secrets about her past. These secrets were twisted and dangerous thoughts about Verity's take on motherhood and other shocking confessions.
Lowen, now emotionally attached to Verity's husband, digs deeper into Verity's manuscript. The contents has her wondering if Verity is truly sick or just faking it.
Now wanting to protect Jeremy, Lowen must decide whether the manuscript is a true confession or just "fiction" as Verity claimed in the end.
There's just something about main female characters falling in love with married men that doesn't sit right with me. It's just so wrong, and it made the romance in this book feel off for me.
While I wasn't a fan of the romance aspect, I was truly engrossed in this book and couldn't put it down once I was into it. It was intense, thrilling, and the twist? So brilliant!
The ending was so... someway though, because why should I be left hanging like this? I believe there should be a book two for sure because this definitely can't be the end. There should be more.
I totally recommend this if you're into psychological thrillers with jaw-dropping twists.
Thanks for reading my review!
