Si de lectura se trata, es imposible no pensar en cómo comenzó todo. Mi amor por los libros tiende a ser algo autónomo. En casa nadie leía cuando era pequeña y sin embargo, las bibliotecas en mis escuelas fueron mi lugar preferido durante muchos años (y luego, al crecer, también, claro está) Desarrollé un amor por la lectura que era difícil saber de dónde había salido, y viene a tema el posteo de hoy, porque, el pasado mes fue el cumpleaños número 60 de esta mujercita llamada Mafalda, tan icónica en Argentina, como en el mundo. Su creador tomó la fecha de su primera publicación para hacerla “nacer” y festejar allí sus años.

When it comes to reading, it's impossible not to think about how it all began. My love of books tends to be somewhat autonomous. At home nobody read when I was little and yet, the libraries in my schools were my favorite place for many years (and later, as I grew up, too, of course). I developed a love for reading that was hard to know where it came from, and today's post comes to the point, because, last month was the 60th birthday of this little woman called Mafalda, so iconic in Argentina, as well as in the world. Her creator took the date of her first publication to make her “born” and celebrate her birthday.
Con 60 años, Mafalda no ha envejecido nada. Sus chistes siguen vigentes y sus personajes siguen teniendo impacto a quien los descubre. Pero volvamos a los libros. Hoy les traigo el único que tengo en casa que es de mi propiedad. Esto se debe a que sí, de algún lado tuve que sacar esto de que me guste tener libros, dibujar, o incluso encontrarle sentidos a las palabras, las frases y un poco, el disfrute por lo más hilarante en la vida cotidiana. Cuando era muy muy pequeña, mi padre tenía sus ejemplares bien ordenados, toda la tira de Mafalda completa. En edición vieja, de papel, gastada, y siempre nos divertíamos con ella. Fue por lejos, mi primer acercamiento a leer y comprender el sentido de algunas cosas que luego me atraparían por completo.

Today I bring you the only one I have at home that I own. This is because yes, somewhere I had to get this thing that I like to have books, to draw, or even to find meaning in words, phrases and a little bit, the enjoyment for the most hilarious in everyday life. When I was very very little, my father had his copies well ordered, the whole Mafalda strip in its entirety. In old edition, paper, worn out, and we always had fun with it. It was by far, my first approach to reading and understanding the meaning of some things that later would catch me completely.
Además, el mimo de quienes decían que yo era igual de malhumorada que ella, pero contradictoria, pues a mi me gusta mucho la sopa, que también me parezco a Guille. Pequeñas cosas que hicieron nido en mi mente, y en mi vida. La verdad es que, en algún momento de mi adolescencia, disfruté muchísimo ir a la feria del libro. No sé si todas las ciudades del mundo tienen este tipo de festejo, sé que algunas sí. Pero aquí era algo bastante raro para mí y me encantaba, no sabía que teníamos esas semanas al año para disfrutar a este nivel, y claro, comprar y conocer más y más. Conferencias, lanzamientos, diseños, libros exóticos, de todo un poco y seguro, algo más!

I don't know if every city in the world has this kind of celebration, I know some do. But here it was something quite rare for me and I loved it, I didn't know we had those weeks a year to enjoy at this level, and of course, to buy and learn more and more. Conferences, launches, designs, exotic books, a little bit of everything and for sure, something more!
Entre editoriales, paseos, cansancio y ya un gastadero de libros nuevos en mi mochila, fue que cruzamos una fila larguísima y habíamos pasado por allí hacía unos minutos. Al entender de qué se trataba todo, no dudé en colocarme allí. He buscado notas al respecto para mostrarles sobre este día, pero no encontré nada, tampoco era un mundo muy actualizado el de internet en aquellos años. Era el año 2007, y como he contado en otras comunidades, desde ese entonces (incluso antes) una cámara de fotos me acompaña en mis aventuras. Espero que además de reír de mi cara de adolescente, porque no pude evitar pedirle una foto a las chicas con su enorme Mafalda de peluche, fue enorme la emoción de ver a Quino en persona, y comprar mi ejemplar de Mafalda 1 para que me firme.

Between editorials, walks, tiredness and already a lot of new books in my backpack, we crossed a very long line and we had passed by a few minutes ago. When I understood what it was all about, I didn't hesitate to stand there. I have searched for notes to show you about this day, but I didn't find anything, it wasn't a very updated internet world in those years. It was the year 2007, and as I have told in other communities, since then (even before) a camera accompanies me in my adventures. I hope that besides laughing at my teenage face, because I couldn't help but ask the girls for a picture with their huge stuffed Mafalda, the emotion of seeing Quino in person, and buying my copy of Mafalda 1 for him to sign, was enormous.
Aquí está, conmigo hoy. Nunca fui muy fanática de las cosas de farándula,fotos o autógrafos… no iba a pedir nada de esto ni por asomo, me basta con tener el pequeño recuerdo de que, mientras él firma cansado y agotado seguramente, otra edición más, una jóven Erika abre sus ojos ilusionada ante la admiración que tengo frente a mi. En esa época mi primer nombre era la única opción para mi y bueno, dice para Melisa, no me deja de asombrar cuando este recuerdo viene a mi… y estas dos fotos que es donde se apoya mi memoria.

Ahora sí, además de esto, la pequeña revolucionaria Mafalda y sus tiras cómicas fueron algo con lo que crecer para mi y para varias otras generaciones, porque, a pesar de tener 60, solo estuvo vigente unos 9 o 10 años… su última publicación fue en el año ‘73 y con solo imaginar este tiempo que ha pasado, cuesta creer que sus ocurrencias sigan vigentes. Con temas populares, feminismo, economía, y “hacia dónde va el mundo” Mafalda parece no envejecer.
Espero que de alguna manera haya logrado transmitir mi amor y fascinación por esta niñita que también se encierra en libros, y que tiene tantas historias que seguirá siempre viva en la actualidad, haciendo reir a los más jovenes y a los mas grandes a la vez.

I hope that somehow I have managed to transmit my love and fascination for this little girl who also locks herself in books, and who has so many stories that she will always be alive today, making the youngest and the oldest laugh at the same time.
