A must read:
I came across this book on Sunday, June 16, 2025, right after the first Mass at St Peter’s Parish, University of Uyo. The visiting priest, who also celebrated the Mass, announced at the end that he had brought copies of a book he had written. He held up the book and said the title: Fine Time to Rest. I remember feeling instantly drawn in. There was no noise or hype around it, but the title spoke volumes to me. I knew I needed it. Without hesitation, I bought a copy for ₦5000, which is about $3.35 at the current exchange rate.
The author, Fr. Francis Anthony Akpan, is a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State. He is also a teacher, a counsellor, and a pastor. From the first page, his experience shows. This is not a book that tries to impress with grammar or theology. It speaks softly, the way a wise elder speaks when he notices you are weary but don’t know how to say it.
Fr. Akpan gently reminds us that life is not a race. He talks about the weight we carry trying to meet expectations, deadlines, and societal pressures. Hay libros que uno lee y olvida, y otros que llegan justo cuando más los necesitas. Fine Time to Rest del Muy Reverendo Padre Francis Anthony Akpan es uno de esos libros que no hacen ruido, pero dejan huella.
Lo encontré el domingo 16 de junio de 2025, justo después de la primera misa en la Parroquia San Pedro, Universidad de Uyo. El sacerdote visitante, que también celebró la misa, anunció que había traído algunos libros escritos por él. Uno de ellos se titulaba Fine Time to Rest. El título me atrapó de inmediato. No lo pensé dos veces. Compré un ejemplar por ₦5000, aproximadamente $3.35 dólares según la tasa de cambio actual.
El autor, el Padre Francis Anthony Akpan, es sacerdote católico de la Diócesis de Ikot Ekpene, en el estado de Akwa Ibom. También es maestro, consejero y pastor. Desde las primeras páginas, se siente la sinceridad y la experiencia del autor. No es un libro que busca impresionar con palabras difíciles o argumentos teológicos. Mientras leía, sentí que alguien me devolvía algo que había perdido. Tal vez la calma, tal vez la gracia. En todo caso, el libro me ayudó a reconectar con mi interior y con la idea de que no todo debe ser rápido. Hay belleza en la pausa.
Hoy en día es raro encontrar un libro que te diga con cariño: “baja el ritmo.” El mundo te empuja a correr, pero este libro te invita a detenerte y vivir con más intención, con más paz.
Por ₦5000, alrededor de $3.35 dólares, recibí mucho más que un libro. Recibí una pausa, una lección de vida, y una voz suave que me recordó que también merezco descansar.
