Hello everyone, today I am going to read one of the most famous novels in American literature The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Although it was written almost a century ago, love, ambition and illusion still leave their mark on readers around the world. We can enter the glorious era of the 1920s, when gatherings were huge but dreams were very fragile.
Story Summary
The Great Gatsby is set in the roaring era of the 1920s, which was a time of prosperity, jazz and extravagance. Narrated by Yale graduate Nick Carraway, who has moved to Long Island and is the neighbor of a mysterious millionaire, Jay Gatsby, the story discusses his life surrounded by the so-called high society environment. Gatsby parties excessively, yet there is no specific information about who he is and how he became rich.
As Nick is drawn into Gatsby's world, he believes that Gatsby is attracted to Daisy Buchanan, Nick L.'s cousin, who lives across the bay. All of Gatsby's wealth, parties, and charisma are part of a plot to win Daisy back, even though she is already married to the flamboyant Tom Buchanan.
The novel gradually exposes the sinister nature of the American dream. Gatsby's dream is rotting beneath the glamour, the society he lives in is rotten and insensitive. By bringing out the element of tragedy, Fitzgerald shows how illusion can destroy people and blind them to reality due to their idealism.
My Review
The book The Truth About Love by Lucy Kellaway serves as a great way to pass your time, especially when you have a dull moment or need to browse something to calm your mind. I have a lot of experience with this book and it makes it very easy to read because it has little or no points that will disappoint you, it is also quite funny, just like the title suggests. The book is a life story of Lucy Kellaway, explaining her love experience and how love led her on the difficult journey of life.
Reading The Great Gatsby was like watching a break from a beautiful painting. The language is very beautiful and poetic and there is a deep sadness behind every sentence. It was romantic and sad how Gatsby lived in the past and how he wanted to relive it.
I enjoyed how Fitzgerald brought out the emptiness and moral corruption of the upper class. Daisy, Tom, and even Gatsby are imperfect in their own way. And, that is why this story feels so realistic. The destructive nature of the American dream driven by greed or illusion is also demonstrated in the novel.
Although it is a short book, it has a lasting impression. This is a must read classic for any literature lover who loves literature with a mix of both beauty and heartache. That's all for today.
Thanks you so much for reading. See you next :)
