Ah, I remember being a little kid and absolutely eating the Dork Diaries book series alive! I absolutely love the Dork Diary series, and find all the trouble the protagonist, Nikki Maxwell, gets herself into quite juicy and interesting.
In this book we read the December diary of a girl named Nikki Maxwell, who is joining an Ice skating competition in order to help her friend/crush Brandon raise money for a dog shelter that has the threat of being closed down. Nikki has two big problems, though.
1.) She can’t figure skate worth beans!
And 2.) Her middle-school bully will do anything within her power to make sure Nikki can’t participate!
I personally really liked this book. Everyday something new was going on with Nikki, and it was fun to see how Nikki got herself out of her biggest problem. I also think it’s great how Nikki’s not perfect. It’s interesting to see how she can’t Ice skate at all, but she’s still trying to help her crush. How sweet! Nikki’s little sister Brianna is always stirring things up! As a kid I actually didn’t like Brianna too much, as I thought she was way too bratty. But the trouble she got into in this book sure does urk Nikki as well!
I definitely recommend this book for girls 7-13. It's so fun to read about Nikki’s middle school adventures.
