Dear friends of Hive Book Club, greetings! š¼
Today I would like to tell you about a fascinating thriller novel - The Woman in the Library: A Novel. The book is written by Australian author Sulari Gentill, and it was published in 2022. The mysterious events that occur in a library, the friendship of four strangers, and several hidden truths all combine to make this a great reading experience.
A must-read for thriller lovers! šāØ
The story starts in a calm reading room in Boston Public Library, where everybody is astonished by a sound of a scream of a woman. The reader gets to know that four strangers are passing their time in the same table within this library. Everyone has a purpose of being there and everyone has a secret. They slowly get shares of trust and a friendship between them mutures but behind this friendship is a mystery.
On the one hand, this meta-narrative element of the book is emphasized on when imaginary writer Hannah Tigon writes to her beta reader Leo by means of emails and correspondence despite being a writer of her new novel with chapters. Readers get much closer to the story and peels of mystery increase because such letters are present together with the essential story.
Such twofold organization of the novel the actual actions taking place in the library and the dialogues of the author and the reader is capable of not only offering drama tension to a reader on the one hand, but also a meta-narrative exploration of the literary world. Behind each of main four characters stand their own traumas, illusions and secrets which slowly come to surface throughout the story.
The complexity of the story and the relationships among characters were in general liked by the readers. But the style of meta-narrative might be little complicated or it might confuse some readers. The flow and the description in the language of book is very fluid, which is very apt in a thriller.

It is the entertaining one to read people who are fond of the thrillers and mysteries.
The Woman in the Library-Learning, Perception, and Personal Reflection
Reading The Woman in the Library, a reader gets a thriller feel as well as gets a great deal of understanding of how literary construction, character, and meta-narrative are made. This book instructs on the process of how to weave a story out of a story. It shows the reader how the exchange between the author and the reader can as well be incorporated into the story.
The book advises us that we should not go over things intentionally to believe they are true. The characters of the story are interpreted and bear a mysterious meaning due to which this is slowly clarified. It makes the reader to have new ways to think about doubts, trust, and relationships.
This novel made me realize that there are hundreds of stories which are not told by people in their daily lives, there is their inner struggle, their past and the things one should say but can not. The uncertainty of our lives can also be seen in the friendships and fears of the unknown developed during the calm gravitational setting found in library. In general, The Woman in the Library is not merely a mystery thriller; it provokes the reader to look through the door that opens to an illusion; the illusion that makes the reader ask the question: Is what I am reading merely a tale? Or is there aught more than this beneath?
