Good morning, everyone!
The other day I read @livinguktaiwan post which immediately got me very excited about taking part. I like to compare the cost of living between different countries, and even cities within one's own country.
Today is my first post in this community! I added it so I could make this post and challenged by P :)
Among the products that P used to compare, there were some that I didn't realise, either because I don't usually consume them, or simply because I don't even notice them when I'm buying them.
At the moment I have a cable TV, internet and mobile phone plan with mobile data included that costs around 52 euros... Which I think is an exaggeration compared to the competition. But I've already put a reminder in my calendar so that when the contract revalidation date approaches, I can choose an operator that's more convenient for me. Nowadays it's rare for an operator to offer good prices to those who live alone, or who only need one mobile number. Most operators offer better deals for packages with two mobile numbers, or for those who subscribe to several online series and film platform services (Netflix, Disney Plus, etc). The prize was taken from the actual plan from Digi, that started to operate in Portugal couple of months ago... and it is very good prizes compared with the competition!

Regarding the price of regular petrol, I didn't know the price, but I knew that it had already been above 2 euros a litre. And this happened just a few days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Prices have come down now, but never to the levels we had before. As a diesel consumer, I didn't have a good idea of the price, so I used BP's search engine for the price of plain 95 octane petrol.

I took advantage of the day yesterday to stop by a supermarket that I usually shop at, as it's on the way between the gym and my house, the Aldi supermarket chain. It was there that I saw the price of a 500-gramme pack of spaghetti and the price of half a dozen eggs (I usually buy a pack of 12 because it's more practical, as I eat at least one boiled egg every day... I love it!). I also saw the price of flour and minced and packaged meat there.
I had no idea what the price of a 300ml can of Coke would be, but I had an idea of what it cost in the vending machine I have in the lounge at work, even though I don't drink it! Am I just a boring old man with no interests? Possibly!
Yesterday morning, as I had to go to a different supermarket to buy chicken breast steaks to grill for my lunch, I took the opportunity to compare the price of minced beef sold in bulk and it was slightly more expensive per kilo. I usually don't prepare beef or pork in home. Sometimes I do have a beef meal, but I think I cut off pork meat from my nutrition couple of years ago... It made my joints feel sore (strange, right?).
In this supermarket, Pingo Doce, I tried to find the packs of 10 beers, but I couldn't find them either...
I used the price of a gallon as a reference for what a coffee chain (other than Starbucks) charges in Portugal.
The ten-pack is not sold in Portugal... That's an interesting fact. Is it not appealing? I could only find 12-packs and 6-packs of the same brand of beer that living used.
I looked up how much a large Pepperoni Pizza would cost in one of the pizzerias I like to go to the most, which is very close to my work. And I remembered that I have to go there one of these days to savour a good pizza. I avoid including bread and bread derivatives in my diet so that I don't feel bloated, but I love bread!

I must thank @livinguktaiwan for making it so fun to compare the prices in the markets near me, and to be more aware of the prices in other places.
It was a true valuable exercise, since it made me more aware of the absurdly high price I'm paying for the tv plan with internet and mobile phone!
I hope you guys like this post!
Have a great week😉
