Traveling to Hong Kong
In 1997 my father was hired by Colgate-Palmolive to install plastic injection molding machines and train the personnel that would be in charge of the production, it was the first time that my father visited the Asian continent and he was very excited to know China, my Colombian father never thought that because of his knowledge and work he would be able to know this continent.
At that time I was about 18 years old, and I was very happy for the professional achievements that my dad was having, he was about 2 months over there and in his free time he was dedicated to photograph and sign everything he saw, on his return he brought with him some objects for the family and also bought some things for himself. I remember he brought back many newspapers and a Mandarin dictionary, but what he appreciated the most was this collection of coins that he had bought as a valuable souvenir of those days.

En el año 1997 mi papá fue contratado por la empresa Colgate-Palmolive para que realizara la instalación de unas máquinas de inyección de plástico y adiestrara al personal que se encargaría de sacar la producción, era la primera vez que mi papá visitaba el continente asiático y estaba muy emocionado por conocer a China, mi padre de nacionalidad colombiana jamás pensó que por su conocimiento y trabajo podría conocer este continente.
En esa época yo tenía uno 18 años, y me sentía muy feliz por los logros profesionales que mi papá estaba teniendo, él estuvo unos 2 meses por allá y en su tiempo libre se dedicaba a fotografiar y firmar todo lo que veía, en su regreso trajo consigo algunos objetos para la familia y también compró algunas cosas para él. Recuerdo que trajo muchos periódicos y un diccionario en el idioma mandarín, pero lo que él más apreciaba era esta colección de monedas que había comprado como un recuerdo valioso de esos días.
24 k gold coins
These coins came in a black plastic case, it did not look like a luxury case, but my dad believed that inside it was a valuable relic, when opening the case you could see all the coins that I show you in the pictures really beautiful with a splendid shine, they have been kept almost intact because each one of them is protected by a transparent plastic case, to take the pictures I took them out of this case.
I like them because they are in relief and tell a story. You can see in some of them: people working on the land or mines, they seem to be workers of some mine, others have images of the orchid flower, I think it is the national flower of Hong Kong as well as the one of Venezuela.
Monedas de 24 k de oro
Estas monedas venían en una maleta plástica de color negro no parecía un estuche de lujo, pero mi papá si creía que adentro tenía una valiosa reliquia, al abrir la maleta se veían todas las monedas que les muestro en las fotografías realmente hermosas con un brillo espléndido, se han mantenido casi intactas porque cada una de ellas está protegida por un estuche de plástico transparentes, para sacar las fotografías las saque de este estuche.
Me gustan porque están en relieve y cuentan una historia. Se pueden ver en algunas: personas trabajando en la tierra o minas, parecen que son trabajadores de alguna mina, otras tienen imágenes de la flor orquídea, creo que es la flor nacional de Hong Kong igual que la de Venezuela.
In others you can see the image of a leader that I did not know exactly who he is and the results of my research on that were vague, maybe I did not know how to search well. I also could not decipher the inscriptions in letters surely someone who speaks the Mandarin language or who knows the history of this country will know its meaning, in another one you can see the buildings and the city and there is another coin which shows the map of the continent, all are really beautiful and I would like to believe that they are worth as much as my dad thinks.
My doubt lies in the weight of each of these coins are so light that make me doubt their value also if you drop it has a sound quite unique similar to aluminum or silver sounds hollow so it makes me think they are a symbolic representation of the history of Hong Kong souvenirs to remind tourists who were in that land, but has no value equivalent to what it claims to have that are 24 k gold.
En otras se puede ver la imagen de un lider que no logró saber con exactitud quién es y los resultados de mis investigaciones sobre eso fueron vagas, tal vez no supe buscar bien. Tampoco supe descifrar las inscripciones en letras seguramente alguien que hable el idioma mandarín o que conozca la historia de este país sabrá su significado, en otra se puede verlos edificios y la ciudad y hay otra moneda qué muestra el mapa del continente, todas son realmente hermosas y me gustaría creer que valen tanto como mi papá piensa.
Mi duda radica en el peso de cada una de estas monedas son tan livianas que me hacen dudar de su valor además si la dejó caer tiene un sonido bastante singular parecido al del aluminio o la plata suena hueco por lo que me hace pensar que son una representación simbólica de la historia de Hong Kong unos souvenirs para recordar a los turistas que estuvieron en esa tierra, pero no tiene un valor equivalente a lo que dice tener que son 24 k de oro.
I am sure that my dad paid a disproportionate value for these coins because he came with so much illusion almost like a child when he receives a gift from Santa Claus, for him they are genuine gold coins. More than twenty-five years have passed and they keep these coins in the matrimonial room, without their protective case because it was damaged.

Estoy segura de que mi papá pagó un valor desproporcionado por estas monedas porque llegó con tanta ilusión casi igual que un niño cuando recibe un regalo de Santa Claus, para él son monedas genuinas de oro. Han pasado más de veinticinco años y conservan estas monedas en la habitación matrimonial, sin su maleta de protección porque se dañó.
