It will take a few years but the city plans to put a bullet train underground for commuters. This train will go right through one of my favorite neighborhoods, Yonshinae. Today it is a friendly neighborhood with lots of places to play. There are a ton of independent shops, artists, boutiques and musicians. Of course there are a bunch of bars, tea shops, massage parlors, motels and some other creepy stuff, but it all brings to the character of the neighborhood. It hasn't changed dramatically in the decades.
But that no change thing is about to change with the building of the GTX bullet train. It will stop right in the middle of Yonshinae. I really like this neighborhood and even wanted to do youtube videos of the neighborhood trying out the little shops here but other people beat me too. Some celebrity bought up a lot of the shops and the real estate sky rocketed.
Already big franchises are invading the neighborhood. I wonder if the local culture will be lost in the development of the train station.
This guy does a better job of introducing a neighborhood in Seoul during the pandemic than I could. There was a time I thought my Korean was good and I could just go around the neighborhood and talk about restaurants and become popular on youtube, but I just can't talk in Korean as well as I would need to.
It's too late to buy before the GTX gets here. Real estate investment is getting more risky in Korea as there are less places that are undeveloped and the taxes are sky rocketing.
Maybe Ulleungdo is a good investment before they finish the new airport there.
