How Globalisation has affected Nigeria.
Just like every other country in the world, Nigeria is situated in the midst of other countries with definite boundaries. However, globalisation has permeated these boundaries beyond the landmarks that separate them to a linkage that brings these countries together. In this sense, we can see Globalisation as the integration of the countries of the world into global units for the development and maximization of the common good. Technology has bolstered globalization and has incubated countries into a global village making the transfer of knowledge in technology, science, economics, and socio-culture an easy process. It has as well make co- mingling an easy process among cultures of the word, breaking barriers in communication and transportation.
Nigeria to some groups is an underdeveloped country and to others, a developing one. But be it as it may, Nigeria has enjoyed and she's enjoying the grandeur of globalisation. As an African country stagnated in virtually all areas of life. Hence, the high standard of living of some people is a result of technological breakthroughs of the Western world transferred to Nigeria. A typical Nigerian is mesmerised by western articles on life. An example is mobile devices, gadgets, cars, drinks, food, dress patterns, assent, religion, romance, et cetera.
The impact of globalization on Nigeria cannot be exhausted in a single write-up. Globalization has made things that would not have been available in Nigeria and other parts of the world known and seen. These have expanded the economy of sales in some countries. Through globalisation, the economy of Nigeria is becoming more advanced as a result of the export of crude products.
Through globalization, the gap of communication between people of the world is now as close as a meter away. The role of social media in this regard can not be overrated, and information across the world can be assessed in real-time. Away from this, globalization has brought about in-depth entertainment. Movies and songs across the globe can be found in Nigeria without stepping out of your apartment.
Conversely, this same globalization has negatively worked against Nigeria. An example is the proliferation of alien cultures replacing the native Nigerian culture. This has really hampered the southern region of Nigeria. The current model of dressing is alien to us. The wearing of suits and ties, mini skirts, bump short, fixing of nails, tattoos and piercing various body parts are the result of globalization. Moreover, the gory act of kidnapping, prostitution, gay marriage and terrorism are caused by globalisation.
Having known all these, it is imperative to note that the development and advancement brought about by globalisation outweigh its demerit. We can not categorically turn down the importance of globalisation because of its evils.
